Atiku's Camp Demands Answers on Trillions in FAAC & Waivers from Tinubu

The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has intensified its challenge to President Bola Tinubu, demanding comprehensive answers regarding significant financial discrepancies upon the President's return from his European trip. The key concerns raised revolve around nearly ₦30 trillion in Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) figures and over ₦34 trillion in import duty waivers.

Phrank Shaibu, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to Atiku, issued a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, asserting that these critical questions remain unaddressed despite President Tinubu's ongoing trip. Shaibu emphasized the stark contrast between the President's rest in Europe and the severe economic hardship faced by millions of Nigerian parents, who grapple with financial insecurity daily.

Listing the specific issues requiring presidential attention, Shaibu urged President Tinubu to provide reconciliation for the ₦30 trillion Federation Account figures and ensure full transparency surrounding the ₦34 trillion in duty exemptions. Additionally, the Atiku camp demands a clear explanation of what tangible benefits Nigerians have received from the ₦15.8 trillion that the government claims was mobilized following the removal of fuel subsidy. Shaibu also questioned the perceived inconsistency in the government's approach to intervention measures, noting that proposals from Atiku are dismissed as backward, while similar initiatives announced by the government are lauded as 'Renewed Hope'.

Regarding the Federation Account figures, Atiku's camp has consistently called for a thorough reconciliation of the nearly ₦30 trillion identified across revenues, deductions, savings, transfers, and related entries. Shaibu directly challenged the Federal Government to publish the complete records if their reconciliation is deemed inaccurate, urging them to establish the verifiable facts.

Concerns were also highlighted over import duty exemptions granted in 2025, which are reportedly worth more than ₦34 trillion. The former Vice President's aide insisted on full disclosure of the beneficiaries of these exemptions, arguing that Nigerians have a right to know who benefited from the waivers and the justifications behind their approvals.

Furthermore, the ₦15.8 trillion reportedly mobilized from fuel subsidy removal between June 2023 and December 2025 has come under scrutiny. Shaibu contended that Nigerians have endured considerable economic hardship since the subsidy removal without a transparent account of the corresponding benefits. The timing of the Federal Government's promise of relief measures, such as cheaper transportation and increased food production, was also questioned, with Shaibu suggesting these announcements align suspiciously with the approach of the 2027 general elections rather than being part of a sustained economic recovery plan.
