Atiku's aide, Ibe, slams Omokri over attacks on Peter Obi

Published 22 hours ago2 minute read

The Media Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Paul Ibe, has taken a swipe at former presidential aide Reno Omokri, accusing him of launching sustained and unwarranted attacks against Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.

In a strongly worded post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, Ibe criticised Omokri for what he described as “pedestrian, acerbic, and unprovoked attacks” on Obi, questioning both Omokri’s motives and moral standing.

The tirade followed a post by Omokri on Friday in which he claimed to have had a telephone conversation with Atiku, during which the former Vice President allegedly vouched for Omokri’s credibility.

In response, Ibe dismissed Omokri’s assertions and launched a stinging rebuke, branding him “a master of treachery” and “an unrepentant opportunist.”

“Credibility and Reno Omokri in the same grammatical environment? Oh, what a mockery,” Ibe wrote. “That’s an oxymoron so wild it should be banned by both logic and language.”

He questioned Omokri’s moral compass, referencing his past attacks on Peter Obi and describing his political loyalties as “transactional” and unstable.

“You say my principal has been ‘good’ to you, but that phone call you trumpet was likely just another pit stop in your never-ending pilgrimage for personal ‘goodness’,” Ibe added. “Your kind of goodness isn’t ethical — it’s transactional, scavenging like a hyena sniffing out its next meal.”

Ibe accused Omokri of hypocrisy, challenging him to redirect his criticisms toward more pressing national issues. He pointedly referenced the ongoing controversy surrounding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s academic records and past legal cases.

“If you really care about truth and character, join the call for the FBI to release Tinubu’s drug records in the United States,” Ibe said.

He further lambasted Omokri’s perceived inconsistencies and shifting political allegiances, implying that his behaviour discredits both his public commentary and his political relevance.

“Reno, oh Reno, what a mockery,” Ibe concluded.

The clash between Ibe and Omokri adds another layer to the broader political rivalry among opposition figures, especially amid lingering post-election tensions and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As of press time, Reno Omokri had not issued a formal response to Ibe’s comments.
