At least five people hurt in I-70 multi-vehicle crash west of Eisenhower Tunnel 00:39

At least five people were hurt on Wednesday in a crash involving two semi trucks and several other vehicles on Interstate 70. It happened just after 3 p.m. west of the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel, and I-70 was closed in both directions as a result.

The Colorado State Patrol said in a post on social media that it's not clear how long the interstate will be closed.

State troopers said a semi truck traveling westbound hit another semi truck. Both tractor trailers then went into the eastbound lanes and hit other vehicles.

One of the people who was hurt had injuries that were described as being life threatening.

A detour is in place for drivers. Cars can get from Summit County to Clear Creek County using Highway 6 over Loveland Pass. Any driver taking the detour should expect major delays.

At 6 p.m. the semis were still blocking both the east and westbound lanes.
