ASUU: Unilorin not joining nationwide strike
The University of Ilorin chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has opted not to participate in the nationwide strike declared by the union’s national body in protest against the delayed payment of June salaries for its members.
The national body is also demanding the payment of outstanding earned allowances owed to university lecturers, amounting to approximately N10 billion.
Speaking to DAILY POST in Ilorin on Tuesday via a phone call, the chairman of the Unilorin chapter, Dr Alex Akanmu, revealed that the strike action did not take place at the institution because members had received their salaries on Monday.
A member of the union likewise confirmed the development during a phone conversation with DAILY POST in Ilorin on Tuesday.
The national body had declared the strike to press for the immediate payment of June salaries and the settlement of outstanding earned allowances for lecturers in public universities across the country.
