Ariana Grande’s Lie Detector Confession: Moon Landing Doubts and Earthly Woes

During promotion for her upcoming film Wicked: For Good, pop superstar Ariana Grande once again found herself in the hot seat over her views on the 1969 moon landing—this time during a lie detector test with co-star Bowen Yang. The exchange reignited a playful yet chaotic debate that began during an earlier press tour when her response on the same topic was deemed “inconclusive.”
As she was hooked up to the polygraph, Grande nervously joked, “That moon thing doesn’t sit well with me. I think sometimes I get nervous. Is it picking up truth or lie, or is it picking up waves of panic? The moon landing has happened! And f— off if it didn’t!” Her reaction immediately went viral, blending humor with a hint of exasperation as she tried to put the long-running joke to rest.
Yang, however, pressed further—reminding her of the previous inconclusive result. When asked whether she believed Gayle King and Katy Perry had actually traveled to the moon earlier in the year, Grande laughed and clarified, “No, because they didn’t. They orbited the Earth… or went for a few minutes up and down,” referencing the Blue Origin flight that reached roughly 60 miles above Earth. When asked if she’d ever perform in space, Grande firmly declined, saying she’d rather “look from [her] yard or from a plane” than “break certain layers.”
But the conversation took a passionate turn when Yang returned to the moon topic—specifically asking if Grande believed the U.S. flag was really planted there. At that, her patience snapped. “Bowen… I hear both arguments. The truth is: I don’t give a rat’s ass! I’m worried about Earth, goddamn it! We’re burning alive! We’re killing each other! Can we worry about Earth for five minutes? Who gives a f— about the moon and the flag!” she exclaimed, shifting focus from lunar debates to environmental urgency.
The test also veered into lighter territory as the duo reminisced about their Saturday Night Live kiss during a 2024 episode. Grande teased, “Did you enjoy kissing me?” Yang replied, “It was the only time I kissed someone where a crowd screamed in horror, so I think I liked it?” When asked if she was a better kisser than Sydney Sweeney, Yang admitted, “You were. Because she and I did it in a very rushed way. We had an intimacy coordinator… who was like, ‘Keep the lips closed, no tongue,’ and I was like, ‘Got it.’”
The viral lie detector session arrives just ahead of the Wicked: For Good release on November 21, 2025. The highly anticipated sequel to the Oscar-winning Wicked (2024) will feature beloved Broadway hits including “For Good” and “No Good Deed.” Legendary composer Stephen Schwartz has also written two new songs—Grande’s “The Girl in the Bubble” and Cynthia Erivo’s “No Place Like Home.” The cast recently celebrated the film’s completion with a TV special titled Wicked: One Wonderful Night, directed by Jon M. Chu.
