When made her reality TV debut on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 1 in 2024, fans had the same pressing question: Is she and her husband, related to? The MomTok star addressed the chatter during the season, but Zac shared the truth during season 2 the following year.

Jen sparked interest during her rise to fame because her name was very similar to an A-list celeb. When filed for divorce from Ben in August 2024, it was revealed that she changed her name legally to Jennifer Affleck and requested to change it back to her maiden name. The news came just one month before Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives debuted. That said, curiosity about the possible relation between the reality stars and the A-list celebrity buzzed on social media.

Jen first reacted to the chatter that September via TikTok, when she deemed herself “new Jenny from the block” following Bennifer’s split.

Later that month, Jen claimed that “Ben and [his brother] [] is Zac’s dad’s [ Affleck] second cousin.”

“So, Zac’s dad has probably met him [Ben] once in his whole entire life. But when I was dating him, he’s like, ‘Well now if you get married to me, you get to say you’re related to Ben Affleck,’” Jen told the New York Post at the time.

She admitted that her husband’s comment was “kind of a joke, but also like, kind of real.”

As if the interest in the Affleck family tree wasn’t enough, Jen revealed that she was named after the one and only J. Lo.

“Jennifer Lynn Lopez, my name is Jennifer Lynn Affleck. I’m like, okay, Jenny from the block is here,” the mom-of-three told the publication.

Days after Jen’s interview about being related by marriage to Ben was published, a source close to Zac’s family told People that her claims were not true.

“There’s no relationship. I just don’t think that’s very fair about that either,” the insider told the outlet in a story published on August 27, 2024. “So Zac Affleck is her husband. [His father] is David Affleck. Zac’s grandfather is Gordon Affleck. Zac’s great-grandparents — which would [establish] second cousins — his name is Alan Burt Affleck. Then Ben’s dad is Tim Affleck. His grandfather is Myron Junior. His great-grandparent is Myron Senior. No, Alan Burt and Myron Senior aren’t brothers or anything.”

Zac and Jen attended a Halloween party at Jessi Ngatikaura’s house during The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 2. While getting ready, Jen joked that she and Zac show up the former Gigli costars. However, the light hearted joke turned into a lowkey argument when Zac stood his ground and claimed he never told Jen he was related to Ben.

“Well, I think the whole Ben Affleck thing is hilarious,” she said in a confessional. “That’s something they mentioned with Zach, he’s just trying to squash it, even though his family did tell me that.

“No one’s ever claimed to have some relationship with him besides you,” Zac told Jen, who replied, “How do you jokingly say that to someone when they’re being married into a family?”

During a solo congressional, Zac shared that he had “no idea” if he was related to the Accountant actor.

“If I am or I’m not related to Ben Affleck, and that had been, like a running joke in my family. It had never been something serious,” he explained. “And so, when Jen started telling people that, I did tell her, ‘I don’t think you should say that anymore. I think that’s probably gonna backfire.’”

Zac continued, “I feel like this is Jen’s battle, and I guess I’ll just leave that for Jen to share her perspective.”
