APC Insider Reveals Oyebanji's Second Term is a Done Deal

Otunba Kayode Awe, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, has expressed profound optimism regarding the forthcoming re-election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in 2026. According to Awe, the path to a second term for Governor Oyebanji appears remarkably clear and unobstructed, primarily due to the conspicuous absence of any substantial opposition to his ambition.
During a pivotal stakeholders’ meeting held in Ado-Ekiti over the past weekend, Awe articulated his conviction that the two principal opposition parties within the state, namely the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), are, in fact, contributing, either directly or through indirect means, to the realization of Governor Oyebanji’s seamless return to office. This assertion underpins the belief that the APC remains the singular, dominant, and impeccably cohesive political platform within Ekiti State, rendering other political entities as mere “appendages” of the ruling party.
Elaborating on the unique political landscape, the APC stalwart highlighted a significant development concerning former Governor Kayode Fayemi. Fayemi, who has been widely associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has reportedly given his open endorsement to Governor Oyebanji. Awe further underscored the enduring cordiality of the relationship between Fayemi and Oyebanji, characterizing the incumbent governor as a protégé who has consistently benefited from Fayemi’s considerable political patronage and support. This alignment from a key figure traditionally linked to the opposition significantly weakens any potential challenge.
Adding another layer to this narrative of consensus, Otunba Awe also asserted that former Governor Ayodele Fayose, a formidable leader within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is equally providing his backing to Governor Oyebanji. Awe explicitly noted that Fayose has not only publicly endorsed Oyebanji but has also actively mobilized his loyalists and political machinery to work diligently towards securing the governor’s re-election. The combined influence and support from two former governors, each representing significant political factions, paint a picture of unparalleled political unity around the incumbent.
Consequently, Otunba Awe concluded with a definitive statement: with the strategic and vocal support from both Kayode Fayemi and Ayodele Fayose, there is, in practical terms, no discernible or credible opposition left to challenge Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s bid for re-election in Ekiti State. This situation, as described by the APC chieftain, sets the stage for what is anticipated to be an exceptionally smooth electoral process for the incumbent governor.
