APC clears Lagos LG election

Published 13 hours ago2 minute read

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared the Lagos State local government (LG) election which took place on Saturday.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) on Sunday said the ruling APC won all the chairmanship and 375 out of 376 councillorship seats.

The election was conducted in the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas in the state.

Meanwhile, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday said that the “local government elections affect our daily lives in very real ways”.

Sanwo-Olu said this in a post he shared on his official X account after he and his wife, Ibijoke, cast their votes.

They arrived at his Ward E3 Polling Unit 006, at St. Stephen Primary School, Okepopo, Lagos Island, at around 11:06 am and voted around 11:10 am.

“Our local government elections affect our daily lives in very real ways, things like roads, waste collection, markets, and schools. The people we elect today will be making decisions that impact all of these,” Sanwo-Olu wrote on X.

“It was good to see others coming out to vote as well. I hope everyone who hasn’t yet done so finds the time today. Your vote truly matters.”

He had earlier commended LASIEC for doing a good job, following positive feedback about the election statewide.

The governor further stated that, although there were a few logistical issues, the situation meant that LASIEC had put forth its best effort to conduct the election.

Although about 634 voters were expected at Polling Unit 006, where the governor cast his vote, fewer than 50 eligible voters had shown up, which reinforced the general notion that there was low turnout across the entire state.

Sanwo-Olu stated that voting materials arrived early at most polling units, with only a few instances of late arrival.
