Anya Taylor-Joy Cast as Elf in Epic New Lord of the Rings Film 'The Hunt For Gollum'!

Anya Taylor-Joy has officially joined the cast of "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum," a highly anticipated New Line and Warner Bros. film set for a worldwide release on December 17, 2027. Her addition has significantly heightened excitement for this return to J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. Taylor-Joy, a Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee, will portray Seren, a newly introduced character described as a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm and a "trusted and lethal agent of King Thranduil." This marks her third venture into a major Warner Bros. franchise, following her roles in "Furiosa" (the prequel to "Mad Max: Fury Road") and the "Dune" movies, with the finale of Denis Villeneuve's acclaimed trilogy, "Dune: Part Three," also slated for release soon.

Andy Serkis will both direct the film and reprise his iconic role as Gollum through motion capture. The stellar ensemble cast also features beloved returning actors from the original sagas: Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo, and Lee Pace as King Thranduil. Joining them are new prominent cast members including Kate Winslet as Marigol, Jamie Dornan as Strider (also identified with Aragorn), and Leo Woodall as Halvard, adding fresh talent to the established universe.

"The Hunt for Gollum" will delve into the crucial period leading up to "The Fellowship of the Ring," chronicling the intensive search for the corrupted Hobbit, Gollum. The plot is expected to follow Aragorn's quest to find Gollum, a mission initiated after Gandalf's growing suspicions about the true nature of Bilbo Baggins' old ring. Within Tolkien's broader lore, Aragorn eventually captures Gollum and delivers him to the elves in Mirkwood, where he is held before his eventual escape, a seemingly minor event that bears significant consequences for the forthcoming War of the Ring. The film benefits from the return of the Oscar-winning creative team: Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens are producing alongside Zane Weiner, while Ken Kamins, Andy Serkis, and Jonathan Cavendish of The Imaginarium serve as executive producers. The screenplay, adapting J.R.R. Tolkien's source material, is penned by original trilogy screenwriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, joined by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou.

The six theatrical "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" films collectively grossed nearly $6 billion worldwide over two decades, and "The Hunt for Gollum" is poised to continue this celebrated cinematic legacy. Furthermore, the fantasy franchise is expanding with another project titled "The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past," which will be written by Philippa Boyens, Stephen Colbert, and Peter McGee, and produced by WingNut Films in association with Spartina Industries.
