Anthony Raio of Half Hollow Hills breaks Suffolk boys lacrosse goals record
Anthony Raio scored four goals to become Suffolk’s all-time leader in goals as Half Hollow Hills beat Commack, 22-8, in Suffolk I boys lacrosse on Saturday.
Raio, who also had four assists, has 255 goals, breaking the Suffolk record previously held by West Islip’s Nicky Galasso (254), according to Half Hollow Hills coach Connor Hagans. Raio is six goals away from becoming Long Island’s all-time leader in goals, a record currently held by Syosset’s Jeff Cohen with 260.
James Bruno had five goals and three assists and Zach Marco had two goals and three assists. Dan Chung had four goals and an assist and Luke Bradley had three goals and an assist for Half Hollow Hills (14-0). Tommy Grabow and James Pagano each had two goals and two assists for Commack (7-7).
Hallie Reid scored the winning goal in double overtime to lead Valley Stream District (5-5) in Nassau IV. Bella Rush had three goals and an assist. Eshal Ikram made 12 saves. Lulu Desir had two goals for Elmont (3-11).
Delaney Chernoff had five goals and two assists to lead Long Beach (11-5) in non-league. Marianna Chimienti scored five goals. Juliette D’Addario had three goals and two assists and Alexa Cohen had five assists for Friends Academy (10-5).
Bella Gray tossed a no-hitter on 85 pitches, striking out 13 for Long Beach (16-1) in a Nassau V/IV crossover. Gray’s 13 strikeouts were a career-high, she also had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks. Brianna Bothell and Andi Spiteri each had a hit and an RBI. Sydney Olivo had two hits and scored a run. Gianna Hidalgo and Emily Adler each had a hit for Long Beach. Carolyn Bee drew a walk for South Side (6-12).
Crisalyn Abruscato went 3-for-5 to lead Hauppauge (9-7) in Suffolk V. Aeryn Regan had a three-run double in the third inning and struck out six in a complete game. Kayleigh Collins went 2-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs.
Annie Parliman had two hits and two RBIs to lead No. 4 Sacred Heart over No. 5 St. John the Baptist in the NSCHSAA play-in game. Katie Montaigne earned the win. Katie Grimpel and Jillian Morgano each had two runs. Sacred Heart (5-8) advances to face No. 1 St. Anthony’s in a three-game semifinal series, with Game 1 set for 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Anthony’s. SJB finished 2-8-1.
Teddy Gerstein drove in Brayden Corber with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk it off for Port Washington (10-8) in non-league. Gerstein had two RBIs. Mineola is 10-8.
Jace Rogers had two hits and allowed no earned runs in 6 1⁄3 innings to lead Patchogue-Medford (10-7) in Suffolk I. Dylan Vanderschuyt earned the save. Jacob Oakley had a two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning. Dan Blank had two hits for Longwood (15-2).
East Meadow District 13, Freeport 12: Alyssa Cohen had a 1-yard touchdown run with about four minutes remaining to lead East Meadow District (3-9-1) in Nassau A. She ran for 116 yards on seven carries and completed eight passes for 61 yards. Kaitlyn Cohen had a 25-yard touchdown run and an ensuing one-point run to open the scoring in the first half. She ran for 51 yards on six carries and had four catches for 20 yards. Kaylie Jean-Lubin had a 22-yard touchdown run and a 24-yard touchdown pass to Sarai Hines for Freeport (2-8).
