Angola has witnessed a remarkable surge in wireless service subscriptions, with approximately 74 out of every 100 inhabitants now subscribed, a substantial increase from just one in 130 in 2002. This impressive progress was highlighted by Jose de Lima Massano, Minister of State for Economic Coordination, at the fifth edition of the Angola International Forum on Information and Communication Technologies held in Luanda.

The growth is largely attributed to the country's comprehensive communications expansion and modernization program, a key component of the 2023-2027 National Development Plan. This program, as outlined by Minister Massano, is designed to advance a clear digital agenda by expanding connectivity across the entire national territory, modernizing public services, fostering technological entrepreneurship, ensuring robust cybersecurity and data sovereignty, and adequately preparing future generations for the evolving challenges of the digital economy.

The Angola International Forum on Information and Communication Technologies, which ran from Thursday through Saturday, convened under the theme: "50 years communicating, modernizing and developing Angola." During the forum, Mario Oliveira, Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, emphasized the critical importance of establishing robust telecom infrastructures. These infrastructures are envisioned to serve the diverse interests of the economy and significantly enhance the daily lives of citizens, facilitating services such as internet banking, telemedicine, and tele-education. Furthermore, Minister Oliveira underscored the government's strong commitment to administrative modernization and digital transformation to improve citizens' conditions.

The three-day event successfully brought together representatives from over 100 companies and more than 150 startups, both from Angola and internationally. The forum in Luanda was projected to attract an impressive 20,000 visitors, underscoring the significant interest and investment in Angola's digital future.
