Actress Angela Okorie has expressed appreciation for the Nigeria Police Force following the controversy surrounding a viral video that showed her jogging while being escorted by armed police officers.

In a statement posted on her on Tuesday alongside a photo of herself, the actress said, “Happy New Month, Nigeria! Happy New month, NPF!

“I, Angela Okorie, Legit Queen, want to take this opportunity to reassure the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the entire Nigerian public of my unwavering respect and high regard for the Nigerian Police.”

She added, “I will never, under any circumstances, disrespect the Nigeria Police in any manner.

“Let us not forget: on December 12, 2019, I was shot and attacked, and it was the Nigeria Police Force that rescued me and [are] still conducting a professional investigation into the matter. Since then, the love and support from the NPF has been truly overwhelming and unforgettable.

“Finally, Thank you Nigerian Police Force for the Invite Last week and I promise to keep promoting the image and the integrity of our dear NPF! Long live Nigeria! Long live NPF!”

Angela’s post comes after the Nigeria Police Force, through its spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced a probe into the video which shows the actress jogging in a public area while being followed closely by armed officers.

The video sparked wide reactions, with many questioning the use of state security for what appeared to be a personal or promotional activity.

In a statement shared last Wednesday on the Force’s official X handle, Adejobi described the conduct of the officers as “clearly inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected of personnel of the Force.”

He said, “While it remains unclear whether the scene was part of a scripted production, the conduct of the officers seen in the video falls short of the standards expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force.

“Accordingly, necessary administrative processes have been initiated to identify the officers involved and determine the circumstances surrounding the video, while appropriate disciplinary action will be taken based on the outcome of the review.”

The footage is believed to have been taken behind the scenes of Queens of Guns, a movie project Okorie has been actively promoting on her social media pages.

Shortly after the video went viral, rumours surfaced that the actress had been arrested by the police. However, in a video shared online over the weekend, she clarified that she was only invited.

“I was invited and I went there, you know what I mean…” she said, without giving further details.

Angela Okorie was previously in the news in 2019 after surviving a violent gun attack, an incident she referenced in her latest statement as part of her continued respect and relationship with the police.
