Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras suspended three games for brutal hit on Rasmussen | Flashscore.com
Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras (23) has officially been suspended for three games following an illegal hit during the team's Sunday night overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
Zegras committed a brutal, uncalled-for interference on Red Wings forward Michael Rasmussen (25), which didn't receive a penalty. This marks Zegras' first suspension of his career. He will also forfeit $89,843.76 of his salary as part of the suspension.
"Zegras begins his hitting motion after Rasmussen releases the puck and contact is made outside the window where a check may be legally finished," said a Player Safety official in an explanation video. "In addition to the lateness, what causes this hit to rise to the level of supplemental discipline is the significant head contact on this play, combined with the force."
The suspension came after Zegras' hearing on Monday with the NHL Department of Player Safety.
Zegras will miss the team's upcoming games against the Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, and Chicago Blackhawks. He'll be set to return for the Ducks' matchup against the Edmonton Oilers on March 4th.
