If you're a fan of devouring books on an e-reader and feel your current gadget might be showing its age, today could be the prime opportunity to invest in a durable replacement. Amazon Prime Day 2025 is here, and Amazon has taken the initiative to slash prices on its premier Kindle model, the Amazon Scribe, offering a deal that surpasses our expectations.

The latest generation Amazon Kindle Scribe is up for grabs at $309.99, a whopping $140 off its original $449.99 price tag. This marks the lowest price the Scribe has ever been listed for on Amazon, as confirmed by price comparison site Camelcamelcamel.

The newest, second-generation Kindle Scribe was unveiled in December 2024, boasting a fresh design and updated software. It features a 10.2-inch screen, making it the largest Kindle - perfect if you desire the most expansive display for reading.

But there's a reason for its size. The Scribe doubles as a notebook, enabling you to craft your own E Ink notebooks for personal or professional use.

This is why the Scribe comes equipped with a stylus pen in the package. Not only can you jot down notes, but you can also annotate within e-books purchased from the Kindle Store.

This feature is a boon for those who enjoy annotating while reading for leisure or research, and particularly beneficial for students analyzing texts on their Kindle for academic purposes.

The size isn't merely about the screen. The Scribe boasts the best battery life of any Kindle, promising up to 12 weeks based on half an hour of reading daily, even with the backlight activated.

The Kindle charges via USB-C, and while a cable is included in the box, there's no charger.

Amazon recently rolled out a software update for the Scribe, which you'll receive at no extra cost. This includes AI-powered notebook summarization, capable of condensing pages of handwritten notes into word-processed text summaries.

This feature is particularly useful for breaking down meeting notes or capturing your long-term thoughts in a few paragraphs.

The update also allows you to jot down notes in the margins of e-books or write a sticky note to attach anywhere on the page, causing the words to flow around the note.

The device has 4.3 out of 5 stars on Amazon. One reviewer wrote: "I have found the holy grail of e-reading. I upgraded by trading in my 10th gen paperwhite. When I received this bad boy (named $crim the Scribe lol), setup was a breeze bc I linked my amazon account to the purchase. I've had it for a week now and it's life changing in the best way."

But not all the reviews were glowing. One frustrated customer wrote: "I bought this thinking you could write notes in books you were reading. But you can’t. 99% of the books are not compatible with that feature. So, it’s worthless. The canvas and sticky note feature are problematic and nothing like writing into an actual book.

"The only type of books you can freely write on are crossword type books and a other limited publications. Or if you convert to PDF. I will await a new generation that addressed these issues. Until then, I am sticking to my basic kindle."

But one other fan said: "I love this thing so much I bought a second one and mostly retired my Kindle light. Making notes with it is fun, and it can summarize your notes and even convert them to something more legible than chicken scratches. Get the titanium tips for the pen, because if you drop it and it hits the floor tip first, the plastic tip will deform and it's almost impossible to write with after that. You will inevitably drop it, I'm super careful and I still dropped the pen. After replacing the tip it was fine, but I still ordered the titanium tips right away."

Amazon has informed us that this deal will be available throughout Prime Day, which runs from July 8 to July 11, but only while supplies last.

Amazon has several kinds of its Kindle e-readers for sale, including the newest model of the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite for $124.99 and the Amazon Kindle Kids for $94.99.
