Altrincham Shaken: Attempted Murder Probe Follows Bloody Town Centre Disturbance

An attempted murder investigation is actively underway in Altrincham following a significant ‘disturbance’ that occurred in the town centre during the early hours of Friday, November 30. Police were called to reports of the disturbance on Railway Street shortly after 3:20 AM, prompting an immediate response and a subsequent arrest.
Four individuals sustained various injuries during the incident. A male in his 20s suffered severe facial injuries described as 'life-changing', while another male, aged 21, sustained a chest wound and remains hospitalized in a serious but stable condition. Additionally, a 51-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman were also assaulted, resulting in minor injuries.
In connection with the investigation, a 24-year-old man from the Partington area has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and section 18 assault. He is currently in custody as Greater Manchester Police (GMP) continue their extensive enquiries.
The scene on Railway Street, encompassing the Goose Green area, was cordoned off for much of the day. Forensic officers meticulously searched for evidence, and CCTV footage from nearby businesses was collected to aid the investigation.
Social media speculation suggested a potential link between the incident and the nearby Cresta Court hotel, which houses asylum seekers. However, police have stated there is currently no indication of a connection to the hotel or its occupants. Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Dixon urged the public not to speculate, emphasizing that the incident is believed to be isolated.
DCI Dixon has issued a public appeal for information, requesting that anyone who witnessed an altercation on Railway Street come forward. He specifically asked for details about a white male in his 20s seen running towards Altrincham Interchange after the disturbance. Witnesses are encouraged to call 101 or submit information via the GMP website, quoting log 484 of 30.11.2025, or provide information anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
DCI Dixon also thanked the community and local retail partners for their cooperation during the day, acknowledging the disruption caused by the investigation. Officers are expected to maintain a presence in and around Altrincham town centre as enquiries continue.
