As preparations for his final send-off continue, his family and community have been holding vibrant mourning ceremonies, deeply rooted in traditional Luo culture, to celebrate his life.

Videos seen by aptured emotional scenes at the homestead of his father, Mzee Meshack Opiyo, in Kakwonyo, Kabondo Kasipul.

In the dead of night, mourners gathered in large numbers for a disco matanga, a traditional Luo night vigil filled with song, dance, and celebration held the night before burial.

In the clips, crowds were seen dancing energetically, singing, and ululating to the rhythm of loud music.

Some women formed a moving dance train while others looked on, their faces etched with a mix of joy and sorrow.

The casket carrying Ojwang’s body was carefully positioned at the front of a newly constructed house for his father, beautifully adorned with flowers.

Despite the painful circumstances of his death, the mood was mostly vibrant and energetic, befitting the disco matanga tradition, which serves not as a moment of despair, but as a celebration of the life lived.
