Meshack Ojwang’ sat silently at the back of the black hearse that carried the remains of his son ahead of his burial.
Tears freely flowed down his cheeks as locals received the body of the 31-year-old blogger who died in police custody.
Albert’s body had arrived at Kisumu International Airport, ready to be transported to his home in Homa Bay county.
“Live from Kisumu International Airport as they receive the remains of Albert Ojwang’,” read a caption from the scene.
Meshack sat helplessly in the vehicle, mourning Albert who was more than just a son to him.
His window was open, and he rested his head on the door, overwhelmed with sorrow.
No one approached him at first; most mourners were focused on the coffin, laying their hands on it and crying.
But one elderly woman stepped forward to comfort him, letting him know he was not alone and that all would be well.
She gently held Meshack's hand as they wept together in a deeply emotional scene that lasted only a few seconds.
They shared the same grief following the loss of Albert, a man deeply loved and admired by many.
The elderly woman lingered briefly before walking away to rejoin the other mourners at the airport.
They lay across Albert’s coffin, mourning the father of one who left behind a young, beautiful wife.
Kenyans online also shared in the family’s sorrow, flooding the comment section with heartfelt messages:
RuthKatungwa-v7z:
"Aki Mungu wafariji wazazi wake, bibi na mtoto, familia na wote wanaohuzunika. Ojwang’ Mungu akupumzishe kwa amani. Walikutesa hadi kifo, lakini haina shida, malaika wa Mungu wakulaki kwa amani. Amina."
rosejambi2713:
"Mungu twakuomba urehemu wazazi wa Ojwang’. Tuko mbali nao lakini tunalia na majonzi yasiyozuilika, tukiona amerudishwa nyumbani akiwa amepoteza uhai. Mungu ingilia kati."
salamakamna462:
"Too devastating. May His grace and mercy be sufficient for the young family. May the Lord take away this rogue regime from Kenyans. No family should have to go through this. Lord, heal them."
janemwangi605:
"Rigathi, I hope you’re watching Ojwang’s burial. These tears are falling along with those from the group you empowered to kill this young man. One by one, justice will come. May his soul trouble all of you. My deepest condolences to the family."
sabinambithi9967:
"Oh God of Nazareth, grant Albert’s parents, wife, and son patience and strength. May his soul rest in peace."
