Airlink to Launch Cape Town-Lanseria Route in December

Airlink will launch a new scheduled service between Cape Town International Airport and Lanseria International Airport on December 4, 2026, creating an additional connection between South Africa’s Western Cape and Gauteng. The route will mark Airlink’s first scheduled domestic service to Lanseria, with the airline continuing to serve Gauteng through O.R. Tambo International Airport.

For travellers and travel operators, the new connection offers greater flexibility by providing an alternative airport for passengers travelling to northern and western parts of Johannesburg, as well as destinations towards Pretoria and North West province.

The service will initially operate two daily return flights, seven days a week, using Airlink’s 98-seat Embraer E190 aircraft. The schedule includes a morning flight from Lanseria departing at 09h10 and arriving in Cape Town at 11h35, while the corresponding Cape Town service departs at 09h20 and arrives at Lanseria at 11h35.

Afternoon services will see Cape Town departures at 13h30, arriving at Lanseria at 15h45, and Lanseria departures at 13h00, arriving in Cape Town at 15h25, providing options for both business and leisure travellers.

Airlink has also announced plans to double the route to four daily return flights from March 22, 2027, although timings for the additional services have not yet been released. The expansion comes as Lanseria continues to strengthen its position as an alternative gateway to Gauteng, particularly for travellers heading towards Johannesburg’s northern and western areas.

For travel agents and corporate travel planners, the new route adds another option when matching flights with a passenger’s final destination, potentially reducing ground-transfer times compared with journeys through O.R. Tambo International Airport.
