AG Files Akufo-Addo Security Spending in Court, Skips Mahama Era
The filings, presented during a June 26 Case Management Conference, reveal multi-million dollar covert operations involving foreign entities like Israeli intelligence firms.
The disclosures spotlight transactions supervised by late Security Coordinator Joshua Kyeremeh, Adu-Boahene, and finance director Edith Opokua Adumuah—now a prosecution witness. They detail flows from a “Government BNC account” used for special operations.
Defence counsel Samuel Atta Akyea accused the AG of selective disclosure, demanding similar records from President Mahama’s prior term (2012–2016) and all Fourth Republic administrations since 1992. “The prosecution must disclose all investigatory material—not just what supports their case,” Akyea argued, warning against “cherry-picking” evidence.
Deputy AG Justice Srem Sai rejected the request as “overly broad and irrelevant,” citing national security concerns. The court will rule on the motion July 3.
Adu-Boahene faces charges of financial misconduct during his tenure under Akufo-Addo. The case tests transparency boundaries amid Ghana’s political transition, with the NDC-led AG’s office disclosing only opposition-era records.
