Africa's Next Unicorn? Flowmono's Ambitious Plan to Revolutionize Flexible Work Revealed

The global shift to remote and hybrid work models, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighted the critical need for technological solutions that maintain and enhance corporate productivity. Amid this transformation, Revent Technologies, founded by Babatola Awe and Akintayo Okekunle, identified an opportunity to develop innovative tools that facilitate digital operations and support remote work.
This vision led to the creation of Flowmono, a comprehensive platform offering solutions reminiscent of DocuSign but with enhanced features, particularly robust cloud storage. The core idea behind Flowmono is to enable users not only to digitally sign contracts efficiently but also to securely store all documents in a centralized location. According to CEO Babatola Awe, the founders observed a significant increase in demand from organizations seeking better remote work solutions, driving a rise in collaborative tools globally.
Today, Flowmono focuses on three primary products: Flowmono E-Sign for digital signatures, Flowmono Drive for cloud-based document storage, and Flowmono API for seamless integration. The company is also actively developing additional features, including contract management, payroll processing, procurement, vendor management, business process management, and expense management, demonstrating a commitment to a holistic suite of corporate solutions.
Despite being a young startup yet to raise external funding, Flowmono has already secured a major bank as a client, a testament to the efficacy and value of its offerings. Awe highlighted that this bank opted for Flowmono over established competitors like DocuSign, indicating the platform's competitive edge. The company emphasizes continuous improvement, with new features being released almost weekly to enhance user experience.
Flowmono's e-signature process is designed for simplicity and efficiency: users upload documents, share them with partners requiring signatures, who then sign digitally. Post-signing, Flowmono Drive provides an option for secure cloud storage. This process goes beyond mere signing, as Awe explains, by curating subsequent organizational workflows such as approval processes, document reviews, and document recall, integrating multiple aspects of document management.
In an era where data breaches are a significant concern, Flowmono places paramount importance on security. Awe noted that many breaches originate internally, often through weak links like compromised passwords or unauthorized Wi-Fi connections. To counter these threats, Flowmono has implemented stringent security protocols from inception. The company has successfully undergone certification under the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and is currently pursuing Global Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) certification, aiming to meet both local and international data protection standards.
With a clear eye on the global market, Flowmono aims to transcend its African roots, building products that meet international standards. This global ambition drives their pursuit of certifications like GDPR. The startup’s ability to thrive without external funding, even amidst competition for talent from venture-backed companies, is attributed to a strong focus on market fit, solving real client needs, and a clear vision to become a leading African unicorn business. The founders prioritize creating substantial value before seeking investment, believing that demonstrable success will attract the right partners.
Flowmono's ambitious long-term goal is to significantly reduce paper usage in corporations. By 2030, the company aims to help at least one million SMEs and larger corporates transition toward a ‘near zero paper-based organization’, promoting environmental sustainability and operational flexibility. Flowmono's digital tools are readily accessible to freelancers, small business owners, and enterprise leaders, offering a simpler, more efficient approach to daily work life through its e-signature and document management solutions.
