Action Duo Jason Momoa & Dave Bautista Unleash 'The Wrecking Crew' Trailer!

After years of captivating audiences as adversaries across the cinematic universes of DC and Marvel, and in past collaborations like Apple TV's series See and the epic Dune films, Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista are finally set to unite as co-leads in Prime Video's new action comedy, The Wrecking Crew. This marks their first time starring together in a feature film, where their dynamic will shift from warring brothers or opposing house members to estranged half-siblings. The film will explore their reunion as they delve into the mysterious circumstances surrounding their father's death, promising a fresh and exciting partnership.

The recently released first trailer showcases their unique chemistry as an unstoppable, yet mismatched, buddy cop duo embarking on a deeply personal mission. In The Wrecking Crew, Jason Momoa embodies Jonny, the impulsive, loose-cannon cop whose life begins in disarray. Dave Bautista, conversely, portrays James, a disciplined Navy SEAL and family man, operating on a completely different wavelength. Despite their stark differences, these contrasting personalities are precisely what make them a formidable force. The narrative follows the brothers through the vibrant streets of Hawaii as they tirelessly search for the truth behind their father's passing, a journey that unearths long-buried family secrets, tests the very core of their loyalty, and compels them to confront the shared trauma stemming from their father's neglect. In a hail of fists and bullets, they wreck anything and anyone in their path, determined to unravel a dangerous conspiracy threatening to tear their family apart.

The genesis of this buzzy actioner began with a casual wish by Dave Bautista on Twitter in 2021, where he expressed a desire for a buddy cop movie with Jason Momoa, drawing parallels to classics like Lethal Weapon, and even suggesting David Leitch as director. While he achieved two out of his three wishes, Ángel Manuel Soto, known for helming Blue Beetle, ultimately took the director's chair. Jonathan Tropper, the creative mind behind the Jon Hamm Apple TV series Your Friends & Neighbors, penned the script, drawing inspiration from his shared experience with Momoa and Bautista on the set of See and their mutual admiration for Shane Black movies. Momoa himself contributed the original concept of focusing on familial bonds, shared trauma from a neglectful childhood, and the empowering journey of siblings coming into their own and kicking ass when they work together.

Director Ángel Manuel Soto further elaborated on how the distinct personalities and inherent strengths of the two stars intrinsically shaped their characters. He observed, “Jason brings this wild, crazy, unpredictable side. And Dave brings this disciplined, methodical, slow-burn intensity to him. And well, they’re both big. They have a lot of gravity. As men, they couldn’t be more different from each other. So what you see in the movie is not that different from the way they are in real life.” This insightful observation underscores the authenticity and depth expected from their on-screen portrayal, leveraging their real-life personas to enhance their fictional counterparts.

Beyond the emotional reckoning and inevitable sibling rivalry that will bring Jonny and James to blows, The Wrecking Crew remains, at its heart, a bombastic action two-hander supported by a robust ensemble cast. Claes Bang, recognized for his role as the vengeful uncle in Robert Eggers' Norse epic The Northman, steps into the villainous role once more, challenging the dynamic duo. The impressive supporting lineup also features Temuera Morrison, Jacob Batalon, Frankie Adams, Miyavi, Stephen Root, and Morena Baccarin, ensuring a rich tapestry of characters around Momoa and Bautista.

The Wrecking Crew is slated to arrive on Prime Video, making its highly anticipated debut on January 28, 2026, offering subscribers an exciting new action-comedy experience.
