A Weekend Fiasco: When Love Takes a Dangerous Vacation.
A weekend Fiasco
The romantic comedy-drama “A Weekend Fiasco” dazzled audiences at its grand premiere on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at the Filmhouse IMAX Cinemas, Lekki, Lagos. The red carpet gleamed with stars, laughter, and anticipation as Nollywood’s finest turned up to celebrate a film that promised equal doses of laughter, tension, and emotional wreckage.
Produced by Damilola Osikoya for Switch Visuals Productions and directed by Samuel “Bigsam” Olatunji, the film boldly dives into the chaos of modern relationships, where love and loyalty clash in unpredictable ways.
After its glamorous debut, A Weekend Fiasco hit cinemas nationwide on Friday, September 5, 2025, featuring Ini Edo, Alexx Ekubo, Odunlade Adekola, Liquorose, Yvonne Jegede, Chimezie Imo, Waje Iruobe, Lizzy Jay, Diva Gold, and Bro Bouche.
It was more than just another premiere night, it was a reminder that Nollywood can mix glamour, chaos, and heart in one unforgettable story.
A Perfect Getaway Gone Wrong
At first glance, Tobe (Alexx Ekubo) and Nicole (Ini Edo) look like every couple’s dream, young, attractive, and seemingly happy, Nicole, beautiful and wealthy, plans their wedding anniversary with genuine excitement But her joy quickly turns to disappointment when Tobe, instead of celebrating with her, rushes off on a supposed “work trip’’, which turns out to be a meeting with his daring side chick, Rekiya (Liquorose), the kind of woman who lives for drama and doesn’t mind being the other woman. From that point, the story unfolds into a hilarious yet tense journey of lies and temptation.
Meanwhile, Nicole’s loneliness catches the attention of Emmanuel Akinseye (Chimezie Imo), a kind-hearted man who treats her with the warmth and care she’s been craving, Her friend encourages her to let loose, and after much hesitation, Nicole agrees to join Emmanuel for a quiet weekend getaway to clear her head.
Neither Nicole nor Tobe knows they’re heading to the same resort, each with their secret partner. What should have been a relaxing escape becomes a ticking time bomb of emotions, guilt, and chance encounters.
When the two couples finally cross paths, chaos erupts. Add to the mix Maureen (Lizzy Jay), the loud and dramatic woman who openly desires Emmanuel, and the tension skyrockets, she brings both humor and conflict, turning every scene she’s in into a comic spectacle.
But that’s not all. The resort’s hotel owner is Tobe’s ex, played by Yvonne Jegede. Her unexpected appearance flips the story on its head. Shocked to see her former lover there with another woman, and Nicole with another man, she becomes the spark that ignites a weekend-long fiasco.
Twists, Secrets, and Standout Performances
As secrets unravel, the film moves from playful comedy into full-blown emotional drama. The confrontation between Tobe, Nicole, Rekiya, and the resort hotel manager is one of the movie’s most explosive moments, voices raised, truths exposed, and hearts shattered.
Ini Edo delivers a moving performance as Nicole, trying to preserve and marriage and portraying a woman torn between forgiveness and freedom.
Alexx Ekubo, as Tobe, captures the complexity of a man juggling guilt and confusion. His eventual breakdown is one of the film’s most powerful scenes, a stark reminder of how lies can destroy even the most polished lives.
Liquorose owns her role as Rekiya, bold, seductive, and chaotic. Her energy gives the movie its fire, while Lizzy Jay (Maureen) adds comedic flavor with her exaggerated gestures and loud personality.
Chimezie Imo plays Emmanuel with calm sincerity, though his character’s indecision hints at a deeper emotional struggle. Yvonne Jegede, as Tobe’s ex and the resort hotel owner, commands attention whenever she’s on screen, especially when old wounds collide with new realities.
Just when it feels like the tension might ease, the film drops its biggest bombshell, Tobe’s impotence. The revelation shakes his confidence and tears through the thin fabric of their already fragile marriage.
But the final twist is what leaves audiences speechless. During a counseling session, as Tobe and Nicole attempt to fix their relationship, she looks at him and softly says, “I’m pregnant.”
He stares at her in disbelief, One question is left for audience to ponder
If Tobe cannot father a child, whose baby is Nicole carrying? Is Emmanuel the father?Or is Tobe’s condition not what it seems?
A Bold, Chaotic, and Entertaining Hit
Director Samuel “Bigsam” Olatunji blends comedy, romance, and drama with confidence. The cinematography captures both the glitz of Lagos and the serenity of the resort setting, giving the film a polished, modern look.
While a few scenes feel rushed, like a character appearing too soon after a phone call, the film’s energy and wit make up for its minor flaws. The script balances humor with emotional weight, and the dialogue feels authentic to everyday relationships.
A Weekend Fiasco doesn’t just make viewers laugh, it makes them think about love, loyalty, and the thin line between forgiveness and self-respect. The ending leaves the audience suspended in thought, waiting for a possible sequel that could answer the questions left hanging in the air.
In the end, A Weekend Fiasco proves that in Nollywood, a single weekend can change everything, and no one leaves the same.
When the Credits Roll, Questions Remain
A Weekend Fiasco is not your average love story. It’s a mirror held up to real relationships, showing how affection can turn into resentment, and how silence can breed secrets. It’s a movie that dares to mix humor and heartbreak, reminding viewers that sometimes, laughter hides pain.
Every character leaves an impression. From Ini Edo’s quiet elegance to Liquorose’s fiery confidence, from Chimezie Imo’s gentle charm to Yvonne Jegede’s commanding poise, the film thrives on strong performances that make the drama feel alive, Even Lizzy Jay’s wild humor fits perfectly into the emotional storm.
The direction deserves praise for capturing the madness of love with a touch of realism, The costumes, music, and lighting give the film a polished, glossy feel, while still keeping it grounded in relatable emotions. It’s a movie that entertains, teaches, and lingers in your mind long after you leave the cinema.
What makes A Weekend Fiasco truly stand out is its ability to keep audiences debating long after the credits roll. Who is truly to blame, the husband who strayed, or the wife who gave up trying? Does love still exist after betrayal? And when trust is gone, can marriage really survive?
The movie doesn’t offer easy answers. Instead, it leaves viewers in that delicate space between laughter and heartbreak, the same space where real relationships often live.
A Weekend Fiasco is bold, messy, and deeply human, a story that proves love is never as simple as it looks.
And as the lights go down and the screen fades to black, one question still echoes:
Can Tobe and Nicole ever recover from a weekend that changed everything?
