'A true ally': Nigerians react to Tinubu's pictures at Buhari's burial
Many Nigerians are commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the role he played during the burial of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, who was laid to rest on Tuesday.
Tinubu was seen at the burial ground of the late former president, who gave up the ghost on Sunday, bowing and paying his last respect to him.
The duo are political allies who teamed up to unseat former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 election. Prior to then, Buhari had contested for the presidency and lost three times.
Luck, however, shone on him when Tinubu formed a coalition of opposition political parties to remove the Peoples Democratic Part,y which was the ruling party at the time.
Nigerians recounted this moment when pictures of Tinubu at the gravesite of Buhari went viral on Tuesday. Many have described him as a true friend and ally who stood beside Buhari even in death.
A human rights activist and social commentator, Segun Awosanya, popularly referred to as Segalink on X, said Tinubu stood beside Buhari even when the Buhari-led administration treated him with condescension.
“Through Buhari’s political travails, Tinubu stood like a steadfast rock, never wavering, always there. Even when Buhari’s administration treated him with condescension, or when policies were weaponised to thwart his emergence as the presidential candidate of the ruling party, Tinubu chose silence over confrontation, grace over grudge.
“He absorbed the blows, not for weakness, but for the greater good of unity and vision,” Sega wrote on X.
He also described Tinubu as a rare soul whose loyalty shines like a beacon and reminds Nigerians that alliances born of shared dreams transcend power and politics.
Another X user noted that Tinubu has earned his respect for the role he played at the burial.
“President Tinubu has earned my respect today. He showed us that he’s indeed a reliable friend and a good person! Arewa says Thank you, Mr President, we will never forget this,” the post read.
Another user dubbed the picture of Tinubu bowing to the remains of his predecessor the picture of the year.
