A Galaxy Far, Far Away: Star Wars Unleashes Historic New Project for 2027!

Star Wars fans have an abundance of new content to anticipate, from highly-awaited cinematic releases and returning fan-favorite series to an expansive interactive exhibit, all contributing to the ongoing celebration and expansion of the beloved franchise. The universe continues to grow, offering diverse experiences for its global audience in the coming years.

On the cinematic front, audiences recently returned to theaters for the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu, a direct continuation of the first three seasons of The Mandalorian series, which is currently streaming on Disney+. This spin-off/sequel film, released on May 20, 2026, stars Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver, with Jon Favreau directing and Noah Kloor writing. Ian Bryce, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, Karen Gilchrist, and John Bartnicki serve as producers for the PG-13 action-adventure-science fiction movie, which boasts a runtime of 132 minutes and sets the stage for Dave Filoni's untitled Mandalorian movie.

Looking further ahead, another major film, Starfighter, is set to captivate audiences in 2027. This new movie features a stellar ensemble cast led by Ryan Gosling, alongside Amy Adams, Mia Goth, Matt Smith, Aaron Pierre, and Daniel Ings. Written by Jonathan Tropper and directed by Shawn Levy, Starfighter promises another thrilling chapter in the Star Wars saga on the big screen.

The streaming landscape also remains vibrant with new and returning series. Fans were recently treated to the critically acclaimed animated Disney Plus series, Maul — Shadow Lord, starring Sam Witwer, which quickly became the highest-rated project in franchise history and was picked up for a second season even before its premiere. Additionally, the first Visions spin-off, The Ninth Jedi, is confirmed to begin streaming in August, building on the success of the anthology series. Next year, in 2027, anticipation builds for Ahsoka Season 2, further expanding the narrative of one of the franchise's most popular characters.

Beyond films and series, Star Wars is set to offer an extraordinary in-person experience with the announcement of Star Wars: The Experience — A Journey Through the Galaxy. This breathtaking new interactive exhibit is scheduled to open in February 2027 at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The timing coincides with a larger celebration marking fifty years of the Star Wars franchise, which began with the first movie's launch in 1977.

Spanning 18,000 square feet, the exhibit promises visually rich, interconnected galleries, large immersive moments, and an RFID-powered experience designed to create a personalized, cinematic journey into the creative force behind Star Wars. It will showcase an extraordinary collection of more than 70 artifacts from the Lucasfilm archives, many of which are screen-used and will be displayed for the first time. Highlights include iconic pieces such as Darth Maul's lightsaber and Darth Vader's costume, alongside a selection of beloved creatures, droids, and alien species like Grogu, R2-D2, and C-3PO. Visitors will also be able to see a speeder bike and original props from the series Andor, offering a unique glimpse into the intricate artistry of the Star Wars universe.
