A fresh contract appears on the horizon for Manchester City's defensive leader | OneFootball
One player who will need to have a big 25/26 season is Ruben Dias. Manchester City’s defensive leader sets the tone for his teammates at the back. If he has a strong 25/26 campaign, it could help inspire his team. It has now been reported that Manchester City and Ruben Dias’ camp are set to begin negotiations over a contract extension. Ruben Dias appears set to play a key role in Manchester City’s rebuild based on the new report.

As one of four players in Manchester City’s captaincy group for next season, Ruben Dias has a vital role to play for Pep Guardiola’s side. He is a leader in City’s squad and will be expected to set the standards for his teammates to follow. Dias generally leads by example on the pitch through his actions and effort. He also sets the tone for his teammates with his actions at training and with his professionalism.
On the pitch, it will be expected that Ruben Dias returns to his best. Like many of his teammates injuries and a drop in form affected Ruben Dias last season. But the extra responsibility of being a leader should see the Portuguese international return to his best next season. He should also benefit from a month off following Manchester City’s FIFA Club World Cup campaign.
With Manchester City and Ruben Dias set to begin negotiations over a new contract, Dias will be a prominent player in Manchester City’s rebuild. The challenge for next season is for Dias to return to his best form. A new contract and more responsibility should push Dias on to do just that next season.
