A Chat with A J Pearce on her Latest Novel
I’m so pleased to upload a new interview today with one of my absolute favourite writers: AJ Pearce, the bestselling author of the Emmy Lake Chronicles.
I have now read all four books in this series - Dear Mrs Bird, Yours Cheerfully, Mrs Porter Calling and the fourth and final title, Dear Miss Lake, which has just been published today in the UK. I love this series, which follows Emmy Lake, a young female journalist living in London during WW2.
Emmy longs to be a war correspondent, but she finds herself working on the problem page of Woman’s Friend magazine, answering the questions posed by thousands of ordinary women struggling with the tragedies, changes and sacrifices that war brings. Although these books explore the sadness and many losses experienced by a country at war, they are also deeply life-affirming and heartwarming reads, with a strong focus on female friendship and women’s experiences on the home front.
Today, I’m chatting with AJ about the inspiration behind her Emmy Lake books and learning more about the last book in the series, Dear Miss Lake. It was such an honour to get to chat to AJ on publication day, and I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did!
