$95M Gong Yoo Gorefest That Brought Korean Movies to America Is Now Streaming on Netflix
There has been no one who has watched Train to Busan and come out unfazed. The Korean movie has successfully traumatized an entire generation to the point that we bawl our eyes out each time it’s on screen. Starring Gong Yoo, this emotional rollercoaster disguised as a zombie flick hits you right in the feels while still delivering nail-biting suspense and relentless action. It is equal parts heart-wrenching drama and high-octane gorefest.
What makes Train to Busan stand out from the horde of zombie movies already out there is that it doesn’t just aim for shock value – it grabs your heart with both hands, rips it out, and makes sure you never forget the movie. And now, if you want to revisit the loss of Seok-woo all over again (for whatever reason), the movie is now available to watch on Netflix!

While the kids may know Gong Yoo as the ruthless recruiter from Squid Game, his fans have loved him for decades now. Which is why Train to Busan has always been a source of heartbreak for them. Although it focuses on a zombie outbreak, fans don’t watch it for a good scare, but rather a good cry.
I mean, we have all cried our hearts out when Seok-woo reminisces about the birth of his daughter right before jumping off the train, right?
If you want to take a trip down memory lane and feel all the emotions again, you can now just log in to your Netflix USA account and watch away. Train to Busan is among the handful of projects that have made their way to the streaming platform this month, and we honestly cannot be more excited. Moreover, its sequel, Peninsula, is available as well.
Upon the OG’s release, it received immense praise from fans and critics alike, establishing itself as one of the best movies in the genre. It made $95 million at the box office (via The Numbers).

So, whether you’re in it for gut-wrenching goodbyes, the chaos, or just to relive Gong Yoo’s unforgettable performance and sob uncontrollably again, now’s the perfect time! Get some tissues, turn on Netflix, and press play.

Speaking to The Korea Herald once, Gong Yoo admitted that it was Train to Busan‘s “uniqueness” that pulled him towards the movie. After all, we have already established that it isn’t your average zombie production.
He also credited director Yeon Sang-ho for turning a bunch of cliché characters into something so unique. He stated, “The characters are quite cliché . But I think (Yeon) took those characters and struck a good balance.“
The movie was beyond fiction for the actor. It got him thinking about his future and what it would be like to actually be a father, instead of just playing one on screen. Instead of making him excited about the possibility, it just ended up terrifying him further.
He said,
It gave me a chance to think about how I would treat my child in the future if I have children. I don’t want to crush the child’s sense of hope, but I also don’t want to lie. It actually made me more afraid of raising a child.
It has been almost a decade since the movie was released, and even though he has been rumored to be involved in a romantic relationship with several actresses, nothing has been confirmed yet. We hope Train to Busan didn’t traumatize him too much!
