A 9-year-old boy identified as Sheneni Gimba has reportedly drowned inside a well in Paikon Bassa community, Gurdi ward of Abaji Area Council of the FCT.
A resident of Paikon Bassa, Dangana Ibrahim, said the incident happened on Friday, around 8:23am.
He said the boy’s mother went to fetch water from the well with him, adding that the mother left the boy playing with a plastic container she used to fetch water from the well.
He said the boy, in the process, slipped and fell into the well.
He said when the mother returned to fetch water from the well for the second time and she could not find the boy and the plastic container, she quickly raised an alarm. According to him, some neighbours, who were attracted by the alarm, mobilised and discovered the boy inside the well.
He said, “They then invited two Hausa men who were into dry season farming, who entered the well and retrieved the body of the boy.’’
He said the boy’s father rushed back home from the farm after he was informed, adding that the corpse was buried thereafter.
Ibrahim said the incident was not reported to security personnel as the boy’s father was said to have left everything to God.
