We’re excited to announce that 80,000 Hours has completed its spin-out from Effective Ventures (EV) and is now operating as an independent organisation. We announced this decision here in December 2023 and we’ve now concluded spinning out from our parent organisation. We’re deeply grateful to the Effective Ventures leadership and team for their support, especially during the complex transition process over the past year.
We’ve established two new UK entities, each with their own board:
Board of Directors (80,000 Hours Limited):
Board of Trustees (80,000 Hours Foundation):
- Anna Weldon — an overlapping member of both boards
Our services to users are not affected by the spin-out.
Independence gives us greater operational flexibility, such as having more control over our systems and benefits, but we don’t expect it to lead to changes to our programmes.
Within our mission of helping people use their careers to solve the world’s most pressing problems, we’ve recently sharpened our focus on careers that can help make AI go well.
We’re excited about the strategic guidance our new boards will provide as we continue our mission and look forward to what we can accomplish in this next chapter.
