7 Men's Fashion Trends Most Women Think Should Stay in the Past
What looked stylish a few years ago doesn't always hold up today. These are seven men's fashion trends many women no longer find appealing. Most of us have worn something we thought looked great, only to look back years later and wonder what we were thinking. That's the nature of fashion. Trends come and go, and not all of them deserve a second life.
The same goes for men's style, though style is personal. But if you're deciding what to keep, what to replace and what probably shouldn't make it into your next shopping bag, these seven are worth reconsidering.
Skinny Jeans
Skinny jeans had a long run, but they'reno longer the first choice they once were.
That doesn't mean you have to switch to oversized denim. A straight-leg or relaxed fit gives you more comfort and usually looks more current without trying too hard.
Compression Shirts
Compression shirts were made for training sessions, morning runs and the gym.
Outside those settings, they often feel out of place. A well-fitting T-shirt works just as well without looking like you've just stepped out of a workout.
Extra-Short Shorts
There's nothing wrong with shorts showing a bit of leg, but there comes a point where they stop looking casual.
A slightly longer pair works in more places and still keeps you comfortable.
Tactical Vests
Unless your job calls for one, a tactical vest can feel out of place. It's the kind of item that draws attention before people notice the rest of what you're wearing.
If you're aiming for a rugged look, a bomber jacket, overshirt or denim jacket usually gets the job done with far less effort.
Deep-Cut Gym Singlets
The gym is one of them.
Those singlets with armholes cut almost down to the waist make sense when you're training and want as little fabric as possible getting in the way. For lunch, shopping or a casual hangout, though, a normal tank top does the job without exposing half your side.
Cartoon-Print Boxers
Comfort matters, but so does growing with your wardrobe.
Cartoon-print boxers can feel more suited to teenage years than adulthood. Plain colours, stripes and subtle prints are timeless without being boring.
Sagging Trousers
This trend has been around for years, yet itstill divides opinion.
When your underwear becomes part of your outfit, the trousers stop being the focus. Wearing them at the waist instantly gives the whole look a cleaner finish.
What Actually Holds Up
Trends change, but some clothes don't need much updating. A well-fitting T-shirt, a good pair of straight or relaxed jeans, a clean button-down shirt, simple sneakers and properly fitted trousers can carry you through plenty of occasions.
You don't need to chase every new menswear trend. Knowing what fits you, where you're going and what you can wear more than once is already a pretty good place to start.
