500 aspirants jostle for 57 council chairmanship seats in Lagos
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has indicated the adoption of consensus for its chairmanship and councillorship primary elections, appealing to members to put the party’s interest above personal interests.
The party, yesterday, during its Lagos State stakeholders’ meeting, held at its secretariat, noted that no fewer than 500 aspirants are jostling for the 57 chairmanship seats, saying that the best thing is to adopt consensus to ensure unity.
Specifically, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, said that consensus had been the tradition of the party, and adopting it would further strengthen the party in the state against the opposition.
Also speaking, Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Tajudeen Olusi, said that the aspirants should support the party in its decision. However, Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, Babatunde Ogala (SAN), maintained that the upcoming election is important because the President is from Lagos State, and as such, all eyes would be on the state.
IN another development, tension broke out yesterday at the Lagos APC Secretariat as the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kolade Alabi, slumped during a meeting.
Alabi, who is Chairman of Bariga Local Council, suddenly slumped while addressing a crowd at the APC stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s secretariat at ACME Road, Lagos.
MEANWHILE, the Assembly of Lagos Youths has issued a warning to all concerned political parties against any attempt to use force, thugs, or pre-written election results to deprive the people of Lagos State of their right to elect chairmen and councillors of their choice in the upcoming local council elections.
In a statement signed by Lasisi Roberts, the group said that it convened an emergency meeting yesterday, May 7, 2025, following leaked information that alleged that some leaders of the ruling APC in Lagos had already concluded the election outcomes.
