Five people were killed in a head-on Alabama crash that happened over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, authorities announced Sunday.

The victims included two children, ages 6 and 8.

The fiery two-vehicle wreck happened at 10:17 p.m. Saturday, July 5, on Interstate 59 near Greene County 20, about seven miles south of Eutaw.

Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey said Stephen L. Keele, 45, of Mississippi was driving a Ram 1500 pickup truck that collided head on with a Toyota Sienna van driven by Tejaswini R. Cholleti, 36, of Texas.

After the initial impact, the Ram and the Toyota both caught fire.

Keele and Cholleti were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Sri V. Bejugam, 40, a 6-year-old, and an 8-year-old, all passengers in Cholleti’s Toyota, were also dead on the scene. They, too, lived in Texas.

The investigation is ongoing by troopers.
