Summer is in full swing and The St. Ann’s Feast in Hoboken is just days away. It has been another week of news in Hudson County, and we’ve got all the headlines to get you caught up, as we do every week — from all around the internet. Among the local news: a new pickle shop, Pickle Joy, is coming to Downtown Hoboken; NYC’s Dead Rabbit is opening a Mexican-Irish pub in Jersey City; and Hoboken’s annual Dancefest kicks off on 7/22. The St. Ann’s Feast is returning to Hoboken once again this summer at 704 Jefferson Street. This year’s festival marks its 115th annual celebration, and will take place from Wednesday, July 23rd to Sunday, July 27th, 2025. As per usual, locals can expect the infamous zeppoles, live entertainment, kiddie rides, a beer garden, and much more. The organizers shared with The Hoboken Girl that the event is going back to its roots this year, branding it “The St. Ann’s Feast” instead of the usual St. Ann Italian Festival. Click here for more.
On May 21st, 2025, Jersey City became the first municipality in the Garden State to ban the use of AI-driven software to set rental prices in the city. Now, Hoboken followed suit with a similar ordinance that was passed at its July 9th City Council meeting. Click here for more.
The Hoboken Police Department released a statement regarding a Hoboken incident that occurred on July 16th, where a woman was found deceased uptown near 14th Street. Per the statement, at approximately 5PM, Hoboken Police and Hoboken EMS/Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the area of 15th and Bloomfield Streets on reports of an individual who jumped from the roof of a nearby parking garage. Unfortunately, the individual succumbed to their injuries. An investigation is underway. Anyone with information is asked to call the Hoboken Police Department at 201-420-2100. Click here for more.

A stop work order was placed outside of Aspen Market in Hoboken as of July 16th, 2025, which is located at 226-228 Washington Street in Hoboken. Given the nature of the sign, it appears it was issued by the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development due to a failure to comply with wage and hour laws. Click here for more.

A pickle shop is coming to Hoboken. The new spot will be located at the former barbershop space next to The Roost on 1st Street in Hoboken. The windows are currently papered up at the small storefront. The sign reads, “Pickle Joy,” noting “Old World Style Pickles from Our Family to Yours.” Click here for more.
On July 9th, Mayor Ravi Bhalla joined city officials and members of the Truglio family at a special street sign unveiling to commemorate the impact that Truglio Meat Market had on the Hoboken community during its 67 years of operation. The sign unveiling celebrated the family-run business, which closed in 2019, as well as the family’s longstanding connection to the Hoboken community.
A video was posted to Instagram on July 10th showing shoplifters running from Lululemon in Hoboken with stolen merchandise. The two men were seen getting into the back seat of a car, which drove away quickly. This Lululemon location reported at least eight incidents of shoplifting at the store from August to November 2024.
The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) Communicable Disease Service announced a new confirmed measles case identified in a New Jersey resident. The unvaccinated Hudson County resident developed a rash on July 8th and was confirmed to have measles via positive measles PCR results. While infectious, the individual visited multiple health care facilities and public places, including Roast’d Coffee and Newport Mall in Jersey City on July 6th. Exposed individuals, if infected, could develop symptoms as late as August 2nd, 2025.
Crunch Hoboken announced a temporary closure on July 18th due to a water main issue in its vicinity in Hoboken. According to its Instagram post, the building management made the decision to shut down the gym until further notice. Click here for more.
The Hoboken Biergarten announced via Instagram its new Tiki Bar – a walk-up destination for island-inspired cocktails and summer feels. The beer garden is located at 1422 Grand Street and the tiki bar is in the outdoor patio.
StretchMED Studios signage was spotted in Hoboken. Per its website, the studio will open soon at 1108 Washington Street and its hours of operation will be Monday-Friday 8AM-7PM, Saturday 8AM-2PM and the studio will be closed on Sundays. Click here for more.
The Hoboken Public Library is helping teach children how to be responsible dog owners by hosting the Hudson County 4-H Dog Club. The monthly Dog Club kicked off on July 19th at 12PM, followed by Therapy Dog Story Time from 2PM-3PM. The club engages kids and teens through creative and educational activities like vision boarding, breed presentations, and community service projects to benefit local animal shelters. Kids will gain valuable skills like public speaking, empathy, and teamwork while learning about proper animal care.
Jersey Pizza Shop opened its doors in early July at 855 Bergen Avenue in Jersey City. Along with the quintessential Italian dishes, the menu features sandwiches, salads, and desserts such as milkshakes, ice cream, gelato, and Italian ice. “Our goal is to bring something truly special to the neighborhood: delicious food in a cozy, welcoming atmosphere,” the Jersey Pizza Shop team shared with HG. Archives Styling Studio, a secondhand shop in Guttenberg selling vintage, designer, and contemporary clothing items and accessories, has announced plans to open a second outpost in Hoboken under the name Archives Vintage Boutique. Owner Alicia Rosato shared with HG a peek into the Mile Square space, adorned with retro decor and chic fashion pieces. Click here for more.
DRIP Fitness, known for its Pilates, cycling, HIIT, and barre classes, is gearing up to open an uptown Hoboken location. The fitness studio is currently located in Downtown Hoboken at 44 Hudson Place. The DRIP team shared with HG that the second site, set to open later this summer, will feature an infrared mat studio, a reform studio, and a cycle studio. Click here for more.
NYC Bouquet, a flower shop based in Queens, is opening a second location in Jersey City. The business, which will rebrand as Kkot Floral Studio upon the opening of its next outpost, sells floral bouquets for every occasion. The shop is planning to open in August. Click here for more.
The TODAY Show featured Perquin, a Latin American Restaurant in Jersey City, on July 15th. Perquin shared its favorite Honduran street foods, Baleadas + Pollo Chuco.
NYC-based Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is getting ready to open its second Hudson County location — this time on Washington Street in Hoboken. The newest storefront will be located at 537 Washington Street, in the former Glosslab space. As of July 2025, the ice cream spot is making more moves towards opening, and freezers are installed. CANDID is a new dispensary that is opening this September in the Heights neighborhood of Jersey City. The shop is a woman-owned and minority-owned business. The owner, who is Jersey City born-and-raised, shared with HG that CANDID will feature bold branding, boutique vibes, and an elevated experience that still feels grounded and approachable.

Back in April, The Hoboken Girl caught wind of a new coffee, waffle, and crepe shop preparing to open in the former Sub Master location at 305 1st Street in Hoboken. The Little Mingo team shared with HG in July that the new spot is “getting ready to open very soon in Hoboken.” Click here for more.
The Hoboken Girl confirmed back in May that popular NYC bagel spot Apollo Bagels is opening in the former Jerrell’s Betr Brgr space at 324 Washington Street in Hoboken. As of July, the bagel shop says it will be opening its Hoboken outpost “soon,” and is currently hiring. Apollo Bagels is known for its bagels, bagel sandwiches, and whitefish. Click here for more.
New Mexican restaurant, Don Goyo Tacos Mexicanos, recently put up signage at 603 Palisade Avenue in Jersey City. This soon-to-be foodie spot is the newest business venture from the team behind the JC taco stand, Taquitos Mexicanos. Click here for more.
A Hoboken trainer is joining forces with two other local instructors to bring a new pilates spot to the Mile Square. Back in April, The Hoboken Girl first reported on mystery signage at 113 14th Street in Hoboken, and confirmed that the space will be the home of TZR Studio. In May 2024, Northern Soul, a Hoboken restaurant and bar known for its expansive menu options, temporarily closed its doors at The Sky Club. As of July 2025, over a year after the business’s closing announcement, we now know that Northern Soul will not reopen at The Sky Club, as a new wine bar is set to take over the space. El Asadero Mexican Grill recently opened in Secaucus at 875 State Road 3 East. This authentic Mexican restaurant features sizzling meats, handmade tortillas, and fresh produce. This marks its third expansion with other locations in Rochelle Park and Fort Lee.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, in coordination with the Hudson County Department of Health and Human Services, has launched a countywide Blue Envelope program with the goal of creating safer and more positive interactions between law enforcement and individuals with Autism and other communication disorders. Per a press release, individuals are provided with a blue envelope to store personal identification to give to an officer during a law enforcement encounter.
A massive fire at two vacant homes in Jersey City left several firefighters injured and neighbors homeless on July 10th. Per CBS News, hot spots were still burning hours after the three-alarm blaze erupted and sent six firefighters to the hospital. Two three-story homes on Fourth and Monmouth streets were reduced to piles of rubble.
New Jersey-based artist Brett Altman released the music video to his new song, Pretty Long Island Girls”– a pop song about an NJ guy chasing a Long Island girl (and how it’s never going to work out…). Brett partnered with The Waiting Room in Hoboken to film key scenes in the video. Click here to watch the video.
Mayor Ravi Bhalla, Public Safety Director Ken Ferrante, and Police Chief Steven Aguiar announced an expansion of the Hoboken Police Department’s (HPD) Table of Organization (TO) by 14 members, a critical step toward the formation of the city’s new Community Policing Bureau. Per a City of Hoboken press release, the ordinance expanding the department adds two Captains, two Lieutenants, two Sergeants, and eight Police Officers to a total of 170 individuals within the department’s ranks.
Beyond the Plate is hosting a series of tours and events called Kearny Kravings. The first in the series is an all-dessert tour and takes place on July 26th and 27th from 2PM-5PM. All five+ tasting locations are women- and immigrant-owned. The goal of the dessert crawl is to show people that Kearny has a ton of small businesses offering delicious bites worth checking out.
Newport Centre Mall shared via Instagram that True Religion officially opened on July 11th. The store is best known for its high-quality denim and sportswear for Men, Women, and Kids.
On July 16th, 72 Hours, a new Netflix comedy in which Kevin Hart is set to star, was seen filming in Jersey City. Film crews were shooting at Liberty Landing Marina, using a 200’ ship and the gas dock as a Miami Beach location, per the Van Vorst Park Instagram account. Click here for more.
Dancefest, the annual celebration of dance in Hoboken, returns to Resiliency Park on July 22nd from 7PM-8PM. Per TAPinto Hoboken, Dancefest showcases performances by professional dancers from companies such as Alvin Ailey, the Metropolitan Opera, and Ballet Hispanico. The festival will also feature performances by young dancers from local studios. Dancefest will continue for two more Mondays this summer: July 29th and August 5th from 7PM to 8PM (with a rain date of August 12th).

Steven El-Hassan, owner of O’Bagel, announced a seventh location for the bagel on his TikTok account recently. It appears the new spot will be located in a luxury residential building called District 15Fifteen on Route 10 in Parsippany. HG will share more updates as they become available.
Earlybirds Club, an organization that hosts dance parties for women, is kicking off its first New Jersey event at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City this October. The party is from 6PM to 10PM, so early morning wake-ups won’t be an issue. Click here for more.

The Albanese Organization, BXP, and CrossHarbor Capital Partners broke ground on 290 Coles Street, a $400 million residential development in Jersey City, on June 27th. Located in the city’s SoHo West neighborhood, near the Hoboken border, the site spans a full 1.75-acre city block bounded by Coles Street, Jersey Avenue, and 16th and 17th Streets. The development will deliver 670 apartments, 13,000 square feet of street-level retail, over 60,000 square feet of designed indoor and outdoor amenity spaces, and views of the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline.
The City of Hoboken is calling for public feedback on two designs for critical safety improvements along Willow Avenue from 11th Street to 16th Street. Per a City of Hoboken press release, the corridor is part of Hoboken’s High Crash Network and Hudson County’s Bicyclist High Injury network, which contain higher crash and injury rates relative to the rest of the city, according to both Hoboken’s and Hudson County’s Vision Zero Plans. The project team is now extending the comment deadline to August 5th to allow for additional feedback, which can be provided online here.

The Essex-Hudson Greenway is officially underway after a groundbreaking was held for the first mile of the project in Newark on Tuesday, July 15th. Per a press release from Governor Murphy, the groundbreaking took place at the future Newark Central Activity Center, located between Summer Avenue and Broadway. Click here for more.

Hartz Mountain’s newest high-end development, The Reserve at Estuary, in Weehawken’s Lincoln Harbor neighborhood, released images of the model residence. Per a press release, the 218-unit development was designed by NJ-based MHS Architecture, and will complete developer Hartz Mountain’s 40+ year transformation of the waterfront neighborhood from an industrial zone into a 24/7 live-work-play destination.
Mayor Steven Fulop announced that The Creative Side has been selected to produce the 36th Annual Jersey City Art & Studio Tour (JCAST), the city’s signature arts festival, which takes place from October 3-5. The City of Hoboken announced that it will receive funding in the amount of $1 million as part of New Jersey’s Fiscal Year 2026 State Budget to support the development of Maritime Park on Hoboken’s waterfront. Per a press release, the allocation is the result of collaborative efforts between Mayor Ravi Bhalla, City officials, and Assemblyman John Allen (D-32), who applied for capital funding for Maritime Park as one of his discretionary budget requests this year. The 8.7-acre park will feature a host of public amenities designed to celebrate Hoboken’s historic connection to the Hudson River while offering spaces for recreation and education.
The team behind The Dead Rabbit in New York City is opening San Patricios, a mix of a pub and cantina, in the fall of 2025. The bar was inspired not only by the high, celebratory spirits of Irish and Mexican cultures, but also by a historical connection between Ireland and Mexico during the mid-1800s. Click here for more.
Sushi Lounge in Hoboken has the best sushi in New Jersey, according to a new ranking. Per MSN, a list compiled by Chef Standards highlights the best place to grab sushi in each state. Writers selected restaurants that were “celebrated for their exceptional taste, innovative dishes and captivating ambiance.” According to Chef Standards, Sushi Lounge’s menu “balances traditional favorites with bold, inventive rolls, all prepared with careful attention to detail.”
Hudson County officials announced that the Sheriff’s Office will be cracking down on drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs on Saturday, July 26th. Per RLS Media, a DWI checkpoint will be conducted in the area of Paterson Plank Road and Mountain Road in Jersey City.
