(30 Aug - 7 Sep 2025)Third Man Syndrome: The Bold Theatre Production Every Parent Should Know About
The pressures of social media and intense academic expectations continue to impact young people’s well-being, especially for young men who often suffer in silence. Addressing this urgent issue, Gateway Arts, in collaboration with Eagles Mediation and Counselling Centre (EMCC), presents Third Man Syndrome, a gripping production that dives deep into grief, guilt, and the silent crisis of men’s mental health.
Written by Terrance Tan and directed by Ian Loy, the story follows Albert, who awakens inside his best friend Erwin’s final dream—a surreal realm of blurred memories, hidden secrets, and unspoken sorrow. As Albert traces Erwin’s final moments, he confronts haunting questions about suicide and hidden emotional turmoil.
Third Man Syndrome blends haunting storytelling with elements inspired by real-life anecdotes, shedding light on the emotional struggles that often go unspoken.
Tickets are priced at $45, with early-bird and Passion Card promotions available. To encourage help-seeking, EMCC and Gateway Arts are offering a limited number of complimentary counselling sessions for audience members who reach out. Some ticket types, such as those purchased during fundraising nights or special promotions, include this free counselling session.
Each performance will be followed by a post-show discussion moderated by the Samaritans of Singapore. This conversation will provide a safe space to talk about sensitive topics such as suicide, emotional well-being, and men’s mental health. EMCC will also extend complimentary counselling sessions to audience members who wish to seek further support after the show.
Breaking Men’s Mental Health Stigma
In Singapore and many parts of the world, men often face silent pressure to appear strong, making it harder for them to seek help for their mental health struggles. Third Man Syndrome is more than a theatre production. It is a call to break the stigma surrounding men’s mental health, encouraging open conversations, empathy, and understanding.
