2027 Shocker: Katsina Rebels Against APC Consensus Amidst Fierce Backlash

The aftermath of the consensus arrangement within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State continues to generate significant reactions, with some party stakeholders expressing concern that this development could create deeper divisions, particularly as the 2027 general elections approach.
Among those affected by the process, Hon. Abubakar Yahaya Kusada, who represents Kankia, Ingawa, and Kusada, described the situation as unfortunate. He highlighted that the method employed left numerous loyal party members feeling dissatisfied and politically displaced. Kusada clarified that while consensus is a legitimate political strategy, its implementation in Katsina State allegedly suffered from a lack of fairness and inclusiveness.
“The issue is not about consensus itself, but the way it was handled. Many committed party members who have sacrificed for the growth of the APC feel neglected,” Kusada stated. He issued a stern warning regarding the potential consequences, noting that the observed wave of defections and the escalating discontent among party members could severely weaken the APC if swift and effective reconciliation measures are not promptly adopted.
Kusada emphasized that the negative repercussions are already becoming apparent, with prominent members departing the party and many others expressing anger and disappointment. He urged the party's leadership to address these grievances immediately to prevent the situation from deteriorating further. The lawmaker also appealed to the presidency and the national leadership of the APC to intervene, advocating for justice, equity, and the restoration of internal democracy within the party's structure in Katsina State.
Despite the prevailing issues, Hon. Kusada reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the APC, expressing optimism that the party’s leadership would proactively engage with aggrieved members and work towards restoring confidence among its broad base of supporters. This situation has already led to aggrieved aspirants within the Katsina State APC defecting to opposition parties following the contentious outcome of the consensus primaries.
