2027 Shocker: Donald Duke Vows N300/Litre Petrol Price if Elected President
Donald Duke, the PRP presidential candidate for 2027, has announced a target petrol price of ₦300 per litre, stressing its importance for economic productivity. He also called for opposition unity around a common national vision and expressed skepticism regarding INEC's credibility for the upcoming elections, urging the body to ensure free and fair polls.
Donald Duke, the former Governor of Cross River State and the presidential candidate for the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has announced his intention to target a petrol price of approximately ₦300 per litre if he is elected president in the 2027 general election. Duke made this significant statement during an appearance on the morning brief show on Channels Television on Wednesday. When specifically questioned about what he considered a realistic petrol price under his potential administration, Duke responded by saying, “Try and bring it to about ₦300.”
Duke elaborated on his stance, emphasizing that the availability of affordable fuel is essential for enhancing productivity across the nation and alleviating economic pressure. He articulated his belief that the fundamental role of government is to ensure the productivity of its citizens within a secure and orderly environment. Highlighting the critical role of fuel in driving an economy, he asserted, “Fuel drives your economy. It should be available. It should be affordable.”
Beyond economic policies, Duke also weighed in on the nature of the 2027 election contest. He argued passionately that the objective should extend beyond simply removing the All Progressives Congress (APC) from power. Instead, he stressed the importance of opposition parties agreeing upon a unified direction and common vision for the country. “The objective shouldn’t be to move the APC and replace it with another person. First of all, the real objective is: where are we taking Nigeria to? We must have a common vision,” Duke stated.
Furthermore, Duke expressed significant doubts concerning the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the lead-up to the 2027 election. He placed the onus squarely on the electoral body to convince Nigerian citizens that the upcoming election would be conducted freely and fairly. Duke noted the widespread cynicism and skepticism among Nigerians towards INEC, declaring, “The onus is on them, INEC, actually, to convince Nigerians that there will be free and fair elections. Nigerians have become very cynical and sceptical of INEC, and I’m one of them.” Donald Duke is among the presidential aspirants preparing to challenge the incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other contenders in the highly anticipated 2027 election. Channels Television had previously reported on Duke’s consistent calls for opposition parties to coalesce and unite behind a single, common candidate.
