2027 Race: Okpebholo Galvanizes Edo Muslim Support for Tinubu

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, recently marked his first year in office with a special programme dubbed "365 Days in Office Celebration Walimah" held in Benin City on Thursday. During the event, Governor Okpebholo extended a significant call to the Muslim community within the state, urging them to stand in unwavering support of President Bola Tinubu's reform-driven leadership. This endorsement aims to secure President Tinubu's reemergence in the 2027 general elections, with the Governor also soliciting continuous prayers and backing for the current Tinubu-led administration.

Governor Okpebholo took the opportunity to express profound gratitude to the Muslim community for their invaluable prayers, steadfast loyalty, and productive partnership with his administration. He emphasized that their support serves as a crucial pillar for the success achieved thus far. Reflecting on his journey, Okpebholo stated, "It has been a long and challenging journey, but by the mercy of Allah, who presides over the affairs of men, we have come this far." He reiterated his administration's foundational principle that "Edo belongs to all of us, irrespective of religion or background," asserting that all appointments and decisions are strictly guided by competence and capacity.

Affirming his administration's core priorities, the Governor stressed that the unity and prosperity of Edo State remain paramount. He underscored the philosophy that governance must be driven by dedicated service and a shared purpose, rather than individual ambition. "The interest of Edo is greater than any personal or sectional interest. That is why I continue to call on all to pray for our president. Nigeria is one," he declared, highlighting the importance of collective national interest.

In his address, Governor Okpebholo lauded President Tinubu as a man embodying courage, character, and truth, who is deeply committed to repositioning the nation through bold and necessary reforms. He charged the audience, saying, "He deserves our collective prayers and support." Further demonstrating his commitment, Okpebholo announced his pledge to deliver a resounding victory for President Tinubu in the 2027 elections within Edo State, specifically promising to secure 2.5 million votes. He also reaffirmed his unwavering solidarity with the Muslim community, assuring them of continued engagement, support, and his openness to their advice, along with sustained collaboration with religious and traditional leaders across the state, emphasizing that "One love binds us together as a people."

Adding to the commendations, former Edo State Deputy Governor, Lucky Imasuen, delivered a goodwill address at the celebration. Imasuen praised Governor Okpebholo’s people-focused leadership, noting that his administration genuinely represents the unity and inclusiveness that Edo State has long aspired to achieve. The event thus served as a platform not only to celebrate an anniversary but also to rally support for future political endeavors and reinforce community partnerships.
