2027 Election Uproar: Akpabio's Office Dismisses 'Northern Threat' Claims

The Office of the President of the Senate has vehemently denied a viral video circulating online that falsely alleged Senate President Godswill Akpabio made divisive statements concerning the 2027 general elections. A statement issued on Friday in Abuja by Jibril Tafida, Special Adviser to the Senate President on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations, branded the claims as false, malicious, and highly capable of inciting unnecessary tension across the country.
The video in question propagated a false narrative, asserting that Akpabio had demanded Northerners vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 or face expulsion from Nigeria. This assertion was unequivocally rejected by the Senate President’s office. The official statement clarified, “We wish to state clearly and unequivocally that the President of the Senate never made such a statement. This claim is completely false, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and create unnecessary tension.”
In response to these serious allegations, the Office of the Senate President has called upon Nigerian security agencies to promptly investigate and apprehend Garus Gololo, the individual prominently featured in the viral video. The office insists that Gololo must be compelled to substantiate his allegations with concrete evidence. The statement explicitly urged, “We therefore call on the security agencies in Nigeria to arrest Garus Gololo immediately and compel him to provide evidence of where and when the President of the Senate made such a statement.”
Furthermore, the statement strongly condemned the use of “gutter language” directed at the Senate President, highlighting that such behavior undermines the essential respect required for public office and democratic institutions. It accused Gololo of exhibiting a consistent pattern of making derogatory remarks against both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting that his actions are politically motivated to serve specific “paymasters” under the guise of opposition politics. The office emphasized that “Garus Gololo has developed a pattern of insulting President Bola Tinubu and the APC in order to satisfy his paymasters in the name of opposition politics. This must stop.”
The Senate President’s office concluded by urging all Nigerians, with a particular appeal to those residing in the northern region, to completely disregard the false allegation. Citizens were advised to refrain from any actions that could further fuel division or the spread of misinformation within the nation, reinforcing the importance of national unity and peace.
