2027 election: ADC unveils coalition to challenge ruling party
The Action Democratic Congress (ADC) on Saturday led the convergence of various political groups and partners under its umbrella, aiming to form a formidable opposition and shape the country’s future government ahead of the 2027 general election.
At the event tagged Strengthening Alliances for a Better Nigeria, held in Lagos, ADC state chairman, George Ashiru, said the coalition brought together diverse groups, including the Association of Former PDP Aspirants, the Atiku Coalition Support Group, representatives of the Labour Party, and the Omoluabi Group, among others.
Ashiru said the coalition’s objective is to strengthen the party’s structure and focus on campaigns once candidates are selected for various political positions.
He explained that the coalition’s ideology and principles are universal, providing a platform for Nigerians who seek candidates genuinely committed to the welfare of the people.
National Coordinator for Nigerian Youth for Atiku, Babatunde Olanrewaju, also spoke at the event, expressing support for the coalition.
He said the effort was about building a better Nigeria for all citizens, not just about the presidency.
He claimed that the PDP was no longer a viable party, citing its leadership crisis. “The coalition is about making Nigeria better. It is not about the presidency alone.
“PDP died about six months ago. There is nothing you can do in PDP that would come out to the limelight. At the moment, the party doesn’t have a chairman or secretary.”
Organising Secretary of ADC Lagos State, Mohammed Ogidi, highlighted the party’s accommodative nature, noting its ability to bring together individuals from different political backgrounds.
He expressed optimism that if the coalition succeeds, it could significantly reshape Nigeria’s political landscape and challenge the dominance of other parties.
Ogidi said the party is confident that its efforts will bear fruit, pledging that the coalition would challenge the ruling party and offer Nigerians a viable alternative.
