2027: ADC unveils coalition to challenge APC

Published 18 hours ago2 minute read

The Action Democratic Congress (ADC) on Friday spearheaded the convergence of various political groups and partners under its umbrella, with the intention of forming a formidable opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.

At the event tagged, ‘Strengthening Alliances for a Better Nigeria’, held in Lagos, ADC state chairman, George Ashiru, noted that the coalition brought together diverse groups, including the Association of Former PDP Aspirants, the Atiku Coalition Support Group, representatives of Labour Party and the Omoluabi Group, among others.

Ashiru maintained that the effort was geared at strengthening its structure and focusing on campaigns once candidates are selected for various political positions.

He stressed that the coalition’s ideology and principles are universal, adding that its goal is to provide a platform for Nigerians who seek a candidate with genuine interest in the people’s welfare.

Also speaking, National Coordinator for Nigerian Youth for Atiku, Babatunde Olanrewaju, expressed his support for the coalition, stating that it was about making Nigeria better for all citizens, not just the Presidency. He also claimed that the PDP was no longer a viable party, citing its leadership crisis.

“The coalition is about making Nigeria better. It is not about the Presidency alone. PDP died about six months ago. There is nothing you can do in PDP that would come out to the limelight. At the moment, the party doesn’t have a chairman or secretary,” he said.

Organising Secretary of the ADC in Lagos State, Mohammed Ogidi, stressed the party’s accommodative nature, noting its ability to bring together individuals from different political backgrounds. He expressed optimism that the coalition would succeed and significantly alter Nigeria’s political landscape.

According to him, the party was confident that its efforts would bear fruit in the near future, adding that the coalition would challenge the ruling party and offer a viable alternative to Nigerians.
