The Black Queens of Ghana have booked their spot in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after an impressive 4-1 victory over Tanzania.
Following a shaky start to the tournament, Ghana bounced back in style during their final group stage match on Monday night at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.
Princella Adubea opened the scoring in the 12th minute, giving Ghana an early advantage. However, the Taifa Stars responded just before halftime, with Stumai Abdallah equalising in the 41st minute.
After the break, the Black Queens seized control of the game. Alice Kusi restored Ghana’s lead from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute before Evelyn Badu extended the advantage in the 87th minute, pouncing on a defensive error from Tanzania.
Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah sealed the emphatic win with a stunning strike into the top corner, making it 4-1.
Ghana will now face Algeria in the quarterfinals of the WAFCON on Saturday.
