Mourners were captured screaming in fear as the horrific scene unravelled, while the master of ceremony was heard calling for security.

In a TikTok video that captured the commotion, an open coffin was overturned, with the body of the deceased in full display at the burial.

The one who posted the clip indicated that the chilling turn of events had been preceded by a dispute between two families who were fighting to bury the deceased.

Amid the clash, the coffin fell, and the remains of the deceased sprawled to the ground.

"We need security here, please. Let's stay calm. We urge the families to stay calm," the MC urged amidst the chaos.

The TikToker who shared the video revealed that the two families fighting were from the deceased's two past marriages.

"They had both paid dowry. The second husband insists he must bury her," he claimed while responding to questions on what had happened.

The video puzzled many Kenyans on TikTok, and here is what some had to say:

Brenda Wesley wrote:

"If I were there, I would have run away when the coffin fell."

Lucy wrote:

"This is so wrong. They should have respected the deceased."

Chiny said:

"Why fight for a deceased person? So wrong."

Hazel said:

"Never have I seen this happening in this world, oh my goodness! 🤔😳😳 Which tribe is this? This is no ordinary thing."

Elsewhere, a coffin similarly mistakenly fell and burst open at the graveside during a burial in the Western part of Kenya.

The coffin had just been placed above the grave, in readiness to lower it, when it dropped into the grave and tipped over, much to the shock of mourners.

Mortuary attendants were called back to help restore the body to the casket.

"The coffin was left there until the mortuary attendants came back to put the body back, and that is when the burial proceeded," a TikToker said.

This comes just weeks after a man from Busia collapsed and died on the spot during a burial.

The man was captured on a viral video drumming at the graveside, as the mourners prepared to lower the body for the final rites.

As he was drumming vigorously, he instantly fell, rolled into the grave and died on the spot. A few attendees jumped into the grave to pick him up.

He was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival.
