Jacinta Awuor, commonly known as Min Aus, told that she had left her house early in the morning to go to the market in Rongo town, where she sells clothes.

She received a call at around 5pm informing her that her house was on fire, prompting her to rush home, hoping it was a false alarm.

“When I arrived, my house had already been consumed by the fire. Nothing was saved. I lost everything that was inside, and neighbours couldn’t stop it,” she said.

In a video shared on TikTok, Jacinta was captured wailing and crying in pain as she attempted to get inside the burning house.

The house was engulfed in flames as villagers and her children watched helplessly, holding her back.

A few other women joined her in crying, asking why anyone would burn down the house of a widow.

Jacinta explained that neighbours had tried using water to extinguish the flames, but their efforts were in vain.

The widow noted that she lost her husband in 2023 and had struggled to make a living by hawking clothes for commission, among other hustles, in order to build the house.

She said it had taken time to construct, and she had yet to fully complete it—until that fateful day when everything was reduced to ashes.

The mother of five said she is on good terms with everyone around her and cannot understand why anyone would torch her home.

“No one was cooking inside that house, so what caused the fire if not an external source? I have no one in mind, but someone did this. I don’t know where to begin. I need help,” she shared.

The devastated widow said she has been forced to live in a tiny makeshift kitchen within her compound.

“We sleep in that one room with my five children because we have nowhere else to go. The big house was destroyed, and I’ll have to start from scratch to rebuild it. The walls that are still standing are cracked, and the entire roof was burnt down,” she explained.

The mother of five has called on well-wishers to help her rebuild a home for her children.

“I don’t have the money, and we need a roof over our heads. It doesn’t have to be a big house, just something enough for us,” said Jacinta.

In other news, reported that a woman in Kirinyaga county was left heartbroken after her home, valued at more than KSh 3.5 million, was reduced to ashes.

Esther Njeri said she believes the fire was not accidental but deliberate, as it occurred while she was in Mombasa preparing to return home for her father-in-law’s burial.

She explained that one of her neighbours called to inform her that her house was on fire.
