BEIRUT (Lebanon) / Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) – The FIBA Regional Office-Asia recently conducted a workshop for table officials and statisticians in Saudi Arabia to shore up the Gulf nation’s preparations for the FIBA Asia Cup 2025.

A total of 24 FIBA Licensed Table Officials and 16 FIBA Licensed Statisticians attended the preparatory program that was spread over 3 days of technical workshop and 6 games for practical preparation held under the supervision of Local Organising Committee under the aegis of Saudi Arabia Basketball Federation.

“By enhancing the skills of our officials and statisticians, we ensure the highest standards of accuracy and professionalism – essential for hosting premier competitions like the FIBA Asia Cup,” said SBF President Dr. Ghassan Tashkandi.

The FIBA Asia Cup 2025 will be played at Jeddah from Aug 5-17, marking the first time the Gulf state is hosting FIBA’s flagship event in Asia after 1997.

The FIBA Asia Cup is FIBA’s flagship for men’s National Teams in Asia.

Played once every four years the event features 16 best teams across Asia and Oceania. First played in 1960, the FIBA Asia Cup has evolved over the decades and is considered the pinnacle of men's basketball in Asia.

The 16 teams come through the Qualifiers competition played over three Windows – spread across a year and half – in a home-away format. The 16 teams also go on to play the ensuing FIBA World Cup Qualifiers for the Asia-Oceania region.
