The police in Ekiti State have arraigned a woman, Joy Ikoja, 20, at the magistrates’ court sitting in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly inflicting wounds on her boyfriend’s manhood.
The prosecutor, Inspector Adeboye Adesegun, told the court that the defendant, on April 12 at about 8pm at Irona area, in Ado-Ekiti, unlawfully inflicted wounds on one Ibrahim Usman by tearing his scrotal sac.
Inspector Adesegun said the defendants, on the same date, time and place, did conduct herself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under sections 186, 255 and Section 256(a), 181(d), Criminal Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria, 2021.
Counsel to the defendant, Barrister David Ogbede, urged the court to grant his client bail but the prosecutor, Inspector Adesegun, urged the court to deny her bail, saying she may likely jump the bail, as her current name is different from the one on the case she had earlier been tried in court and struck out.
Magistrate Olatomiwa Daramola denied the defendant bail, remanded her to the correctional custody in Ado-Ekiti, and adjourned the case till April 22, for hearing.
