Winter storm on its way: How much snow will fall? - NewsBreak
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - We’re bracing for maybe the most significant snowfall of the season thus far.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of the Chicago area, including Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, McHenry, Kendall, Grundy and Kankakee Counties. The alert begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday and will last until 3 a.m. Thursday.
The NWS says the snow is expected to arrive by midmorning Wednesday, with the largest amounts predicted to come down during the evening commute. Snow will be heavy at times, resulting in poor visibility and potentially treacherous roads.
Ultimately, when it is all said and done, the NWS forecasts at least 3 inches of accumulation. However, the city, north and northwest suburbs could be in for an even bigger storm, with AccuWeather projecting up to 6 inches to fall.
More than 24 hours out, the forecast remains fluid.
It appears this snow wouldn’t be melting anytime soon.
AccuWeather says we’ll be facing quite a cold stretch, with temps stuck in the teens on Thursday and Friday’s high temperature still well below freezing.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WBBM Newsradio for the latest on this winter storm.
