Wildfire Forces Evacuations in Scotland as Flames Sweep Through Forest
Evacuations were carried out in Galloway, Scotland, after a major wildfire broke out on Friday, April 4, and continued to burn through forest land over the weekend, the BBC reported.
Emergency crews first responded late Friday night to the fire near Glen Trool. Helicopters and drones have since been deployed to combat the flames and monitor the fire’s spread, local news reported, citing officials.
Earlier in the week, as temperatures soared across Scotland, authorities issued an “extreme wildfire warning” for the week of April 1.
