Why Lottie Makes Everyone Start Screaming In Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 6

Published 6 days ago3 minute read

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Yellowjackets season 3, episode 6, "Thanksgiving (Canada)."

Teenage Lottie Matthews (Courtney Eaton) has one of her strangest season 3 moments yet in episode 6. Season 3 sees Lottie in a unique position where she is not the leader of the survivors in the wilderness, yet she still holds considerable influence in the group. This is particularly evident in Yellowjackets season 3, episode 4's ending, when Lottie changes her vote in deciding whether Coach Ben Scott (Steven Krueger) is guilty or innocent. Several other survivors follow her lead and change their votes as well.

Lottie wields her power again in Yellowjackets season 3, episode 5, as she helps save Coach Ben from execution due to the vision Akilah (Nia Sondaya) had of him being a bridge. During Yellowjackets season 2's ending, Lottie made Natalie Scatorccio (Sophie Thatcher) the group's leader. After Natalie kills Coach Ben to put him out of his misery in season 3, episode 6, . However, Lottie has an arguably even more powerful moment later in the episode.

As the survivors eat parts of Coach Ben during a ritual feast, the mood is quiet and somber. This is a stark contrast from past ritual feasts and when they consumed the flesh of other dead survivors like Yellowjackets' Jackie Taylor (Ella Purnell). In these instances, there was a fierce, loud, and animalistic energy among the group. Lottie recognizes that this is what is missing, and her new vision confirms this. She screams and insists on the rest of the group joining her in song and dance so they can connect to the wilderness as they have in the past.

Lottie Matthews' father, Marty, plays an important role in Yellowjackets season 3, episode 5 as the investigation into Lottie's death moves forward.

Once the rest of the group starts screaming and joining the chorus of the mysterious screeching sound, they all become more animalistic and influenced. Some of them believe in and care about connecting to the power of the wilderness. Others use it as an opportunity to unleash the emotions they have been repressing and instead .

Lottie previously stopped having visions, which is why she has been relying on Travis Martinez (Kevin Alves) and Akilah to have visions instead. Why Lottie begins to experience visions again in episode 6 depends on whether there is any legitimacy to them. If there is actual truth and power in the visions and in the wilderness, it may be that the wilderness no longer thinks Travis and Akilah are worthy. Meanwhile, Lottie has remained dedicated to serving the wilderness, even when she stopped having visions, and now she is worthy again.

Lottie's visions continue to be one of the many questions Yellowjackets has about whether the supernatural is real or if it can all be explained by the survivors' horrific trauma.

On the other hand, . Eating Coach Ben, who she initially decided was innocent, then sentenced to death, then saved his life, only for him to be killed anyway, is enough for her to reach a breaking point. That doesn't even take into account her medical condition and all the other trauma she has endured. Lottie's visions continue to be one of the many questions has about whether the supernatural is real or if it can all be explained by the survivors' horrific trauma.
