Why I'm still not married - Actor Nonso Diobi
Actor Nonso Diobi has opened up about his decision to remain unmarried, citing the challenge of separating his movie characters from real-life relationships.
In an interview with Labista, the 48-year-old explained how growing up in the limelight affected his approach to love and commitment.
“I grew up on TV and don’t know what it means to be a regular guy. I’ve tried to build relationships that would lead to marriage, but there was something I was doing wrong. I was seeing them through a script,” he said.
Known for his romantic roles in several Nollywood classics, Diobi admitted that being deeply immersed in the entertainment industry made it difficult to draw a clear line between acting and authentic emotional connection.
Despite his efforts to settle down, the actor acknowledged that his tendency to treat relationships like movie scenes hindered his chances of finding the right partner. Over time, this has even led to speculation that he might be secretly married or living a double life.
“I just smile,” he said in response to such rumours, choosing instead to live life on his own terms.
For the actor, marriage is a personal journey that should be driven by genuine love and understanding — not public pressure or social media trends. His stance has struck a chord with many who find themselves navigating similar societal expectations.
Rather than cave into the noise, Nonso Diobi says his focus is on maintaining peace of mind, building a successful career and keeping good energy around him.
“I protect my personal life because not everything belongs online,” he said.
