Not only have fans gotten to know the stars of MomTok on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, but they have also gotten to know their husbands. After season 2 premiered in May 2025, fans are wanting to learn more about Demi Engemann’s husband, Bret Engemann. Who is Bret and what has he shared about his relationship with Demi?

Bret played football while attending Brigham Young University, and he was a free agent with the Oakland Raiders, now the Las Vegas Raiders, from 2003 until 2005.

He’s been working as a managing partner for Armstrong Consulting Group ever since June 2022, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Demi and Bret officially began dating in 2020. However, she revealed in a TikTok video posted in February 2023 that they met through family friends when she was a child and Bret was married to his first wife, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Angie Harrington.

“So if you don’t know, my husband and I are 16 years apart and I knew him through a family friend growing up,” she said at the time. “He was so much older than me. When I was 9 years old, he was married to his first wife and having babies.”

While their relationship didn’t turn romantic until she was older, Demi admitted to having “an innocent little girl crush” on Bret when he was the quarterback for Brigham Young University.

Demi also explained that they initially met through a family friend. “I honestly don’t think we ever met or crossed paths, which is so insane because the family friend that I knew him through was one of my best friends growing up,” she said in the TikTok video. “I was over there all the time and he was always over there all the time but we always somehow missed each other or maybe we didn’t realize because of the huge age gap.”

Bret has two sons, Rome and Cole, with Angie. Meanwhile, he is also a stepfather to Demi’s daughter, Maude, whom she shares with ex-husband .

While many fans first got to know Bret on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, it turns out that the Hulu show is not his first experience with reality TV. Bret previously competed on season 16 of The Bachelorette in an attempt to win over leading lady Clare Crawley. However, he was sent home before filming due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.

Many of the original stars returned to film season 16 of The Bachelorette once it was safe, though Bret opted to stay in Utah after he and Demi reconnected. Their relationship quickly turned romantic and the rest is history.

Vanderpump Villa star made headlines when he claimed he had an affair with Demi following her cameo on his show. However, she has denied that she crossed the line.

“I acted the same way toward him that I did everyone else. So that’s just my personality and I’ll never diminish that for anyone. I’m proud of the way that I conducted myself and for staying true to myself,” she told Us Weekly in May 2025. “I am equally as proud for the way that I’ve handled it post-filming as well. [Bret and I though] will always communicate our way through any hurdle.”
